Director of Business Development Full Description

As the Director of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships, you'll play a key role in expanding AoPS's reach and impact by making world-class mathematics education accessible to more students. In this position, you will develop and execute innovative partnerships, institutional relationships, and new market opportunities through strategic alliances, government programs, and philanthropic initiatives. This position is ideal for a strategic and entrepreneurial relationship-builder who thrives on creating meaningful connections that open doors to new communities and markets.

The Director of Business Development will:
  • Expand our reach by developing relationships with state Education Savings Account (ESA) programs and Virtual Charter school networks, ensuring AoPS is an approved provider and preferred partner
  • Build and nurture strategic partnerships with leading mathematics organizations including National Math Stars (NMS), Mathematical Association of America (MAA), Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM), and International Math Olympiad (IMO) programs
  • Secure corporate sponsorships for signature programs like our Worldwide Online Olympiad Training, develope compelling sponsorship packages and manage sponsor relationships
  • Cultivate philanthropic relationships with foundations, donors, and grant-making organizations to create scholarship opportunities and subsidized access to our courses and programs
  • Identify and develop new market opportunities through strategic partnerships, both domestically and internationally, including potential licensing, white-label, and co-development opportunities
  • Leading contract negotiations and managing complex partnership agreements across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Develop business cases and ROI models for new partnership initiatives
  • Represent AoPS at industry conferences, government meetings, and partner events
  • Collaborate with product, marketing, and operations teams to ensure successful partnership implementation
  • Build and manage a pipeline of partnership opportunities aligned with company growth objectives

The ideal candidate has:
  • 7+ years of experience in business development, strategic partnerships, or related fields, preferably in education technology or youth-serving organizations
  • Successfully navigated government procurement processes and understand the ESA/charter school ecosystem
  • A track record of securing significant corporate sponsorships and philanthropic support
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills and can engage effectively with diverse stakeholders from government officials to foundation directors to corporate executives
  • Experience structuring and negotiating complex partnership agreements
  • Strong analytical skills and can build compelling business cases backed by data
  • Comfort with operating in ambiguity and can identify creative partnership structures
  • Understanding of the mathematics education landscape or are eager to become deeply knowledgeable about it
  • Belief in the transformative power of challenging academic experiences and want to help more students discover their potential
