Director of Communications & Creative Content Full Description

General Summary of Position:
The Director of Communications & Creative Content is responsible for assisting with the publicity and visual identity of the University’s Division I intercollegiate athletics department.
1. Serve as the primary communications contact for select sports with duties including media engagement, compilation of statistics, reporting of information through appropriate channels and maintenance of historical archives. Responsibilities include promotion of select sports through written and visual formats (Ex. Game previews/recaps/notes, award nominations, social media management, etc.). Cover all home and away contests of select teams, attending all home games to manage communications operations and traveling as necessary.
2. In conjunction with the Associate AD for Communications & Creative Content, establish a strong creative direction, and then develop annual design themes, concepts and templates for UMass Lowell Athletics to further the department’s brand recognition, fan engagement, recruiting and revenue generation.
3. Create unique and compelling graphic design campaigns for all official athletics communications’ platforms, such as social media and goriverhawks.com, to aid in public relations and recruitment/retention of student-athletes. Collaborate with the Associate AD for Communications to evaluate additional requests for graphic content from within athletics.
4. Design print and digital collateral for major Athletic Advancement and Alumni events, campaigns and reports that generate revenue for the athletics department (Ex. Annual Report, Days of Giving, Hall of Fame, etc.). Provides photography, social media and other services at these special events and athletic contests as necessary.
5. Collaborate with the University’s Brand, Communications and Creative Strategy team to promote campus campaigns when necessary, providing graphics that align with the established visual identity.

  • Full compliance with all NCAA and conference rules and regulations is required. All employees must have a full understanding of applicable NCAA rules and participate in compliance workshops and meetings as requested. In the event there is reasonable cause to believe a violation has occurred, employees will report it in a timely manner to the director of athletics their designee.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:

Minimum Qualifications (Required):
Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree required
Experience:
• 5+ years working in a collegiate athletics environment in a communications and creative role.
• Portfolio of proficient experience in graphics content creation
Skills:
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
• Ability to multi-task and work within a team environment.
• Ability to operate statistical software, such as NCAA Live Stats
• Working knowledge and application of NCAA rules, regulations and procedures.
• Must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of general graphic design principles, typography and color theory, as well as production process for print and digital media

• Skilled in photography and photo editing software
