The Director of Enterprise AI Development provides strategic leadership, management, and technical oversight for the university’s enterprise AI development efforts. This role leads a dynamic team of developers, application analysts, and research facilitators and works closely with university stakeholders and IT partners. The director guides AI adoption, integration, and development, implementing secure and scalable solutions aligned with institutional priorities and recommended practices.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead, mentor, and develop the Enterprise AI Development team. Direct the implementation and maintenance of enterprise AI solutions for the university and its extended campuses. Partner with university leadership, academic units, governance groups, and other stakeholders to identify needs and translate them into effective solutions. Modernize the institution’s enterprise AI capabilities.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience | Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and at least 8 years of job related experience, including some prior management experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or a closely related field. Relevant technical certifications, such as AWS, Microsoft, Google AI/ML engineering or specializations. Relevant professional certifications, such as ITIL, Agile Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise software development, AI application development, systems integration, or related technology disciplines. Three (3) or more years of supervisory or managerial experience leading technical or software development teams. Experience implementing enterprise AI platforms/integrations, generative AI technologies, machine learning applications, or intelligent automation solutions. Experience managing complex technology portfolios and vendor relationships. Experience working within higher education, healthcare, government, or other large, complex organizations.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities | Familiarity with higher education, enterprise technology environments, and business processes. Skilled in planning, organizing, and directing projects while supervising and leading individuals with varied skill sets to work effectively as a team. Proven effectiveness collaborating across distributed, cross-functional teams.

Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff on the Enterprise AI development team in the Division of Information Technology. Working with the AVP for IT Enterprise AI, Data, and Research Computing and governance groups, establish departmental priorities, goals, and performance expectations. Promote professional development and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, continuous learning, and technical excellence. Establish technical standards, development methodologies, coding practices, and architectural guidelines for AI-enabled solutions, integrations, and related technology initiatives. Guide the evaluation, selection, and implementation of AI technologies, platforms, and development tools supporting academic, research, and administrative needs. Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within scope, and aligned with university priorities. Manage project portfolios, allocate resources, and monitor progress toward strategic objectives.
