Director of Finance and Operations Full Description

Posting Title: Director of Finance and Operations Overview: 
This position is responsible for all aspects of financial operation of the Conway School of  Nursing (CSON). Oversees the financial and operational functions of the CSON in collaboration with the Dean and serves as a key contributor to the financial positioning of the School as a whole. This includes management and oversight of all financial areas, operations, reporting, budget negotiation and preparation, long range forecasting and projections, and high-level financial analysis and recommendations.

The position supervises administrative staff that support the Dean’s Office and Academic Programs and student workers; oversees, manages, and ensures effective business systems, data integrity, facilities operations, and purchasing; Manages all aspects of gifts, endowments, and scholarships, and serves as a grant liaison for all intra and extramural grant submissions, funded projects, and post-award activities. In collaboration with the Dean, the Director serves as a key liaison with university offices and external stakeholders to support academic, research, and strategic priorities while ensuring sound resource management and alignment with School and University missions and institutional policies.
 
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $140,000-145,000. 

Responsibilities: 
  • Financial Strategy & Budget Management
    • Strategic Planning: Leads the development of CSON’s annual operating/capital budgets and five-year financial strategic plans.
    • Full-Cycle Accounting: Manages revenue and expense modeling, fiscal year-end closeouts, and general accounting activities in accordance with GAAP. 
    • Analysis & Compliance: Conducts monthly budget monitoring and variance analysis; ensures fiscal integrity of gift funds, endowments, and sponsored project funding.
    • Allocation: Oversees the distribution of academic program budgets and negotiates complex budgetary procedures across multiple units.
  • Operations & Facilities Oversight
    • Infrastructure Management: Directs building maintenance, security protocols, and operational repairs in collaboration with the University Facilities Management team and the Department of Public Safety.
    • Business Optimization: Acts as technical liaison for PeopleSoft and other business software to optimize reporting and operational workflows.
    • Events & Procurement: Manages school-wide purchasing and partners with University Events for major ceremonies (Commencement, Pinning, etc.).
  • Leadership & Human Resources
    • Staff Supervision: Leads administrative staff and student workers, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
    • Training & Development: Facilitates systems education and budget stewardship training for faculty and staff.
    • HR Liaison: Provides financial oversight for payroll operations and collaborates with Human Resources on policy implementation.
  • Stakeholder Relations & Reporting
    • Internal Liaison: Serves as the primary bridge between the Dean’s office and University administrative units (Controller, Procurement, Research, etc.).
    • External Reporting: Prepares critical annual reports for accrediting bodies and external stakeholders, including AACN and USNWR.
    • Committee Leadership: Represents the School of Nursing on university-wide committees and maintains relationships with government and legal advisors.
 
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor's Degree required, master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of budget and grant management experience
  •  Basic knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management principles and procedures.
  • High proficiency in Excel and Google
  • Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal and university regulations.
  • Database management skills.
  • Negotiation and arbitrations skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
