Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is hiring a Director of Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs. This role leads the administration of all financial aid and veterans' benefits programs, manages compliance with federal and state regulations, supervises staff, oversees budgets, and supports student access and success through effective financial aid operations.

Provide strategic leadership and oversight of federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid programs and veterans' educational benefits.
Ensure compliance with Title IV and VA program regulations and maintain the Title IV Participation Agreement with the U.S. Department of Education.
Supervise, train, and evaluate department staff, and oversee daily financial aid operations including grant awarding and disbursement reconciliations.
Prepare and submit institutional applications and reports related to financial aid programs, and respond to audits and official reviews.
Administer academic appeals for financial aid eligibility reinstatement and advise students and stakeholders on financial aid matters.
Manage departmental budgets and monitor fund balances using systems such as Oracle/PeopleSoft.
Oversee Veterans Benefits certification process ensuring timely, accurate reporting and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Business, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field required; equivalent education and experience acceptable.
Experience with Title IV compliance, financial aid systems, supervisory roles, and knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations mandatory.
Experience with Oracle/PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and process improvement initiatives preferred.

Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management & Student Success, this position ensures the accurate, efficient, and compliant delivery of student aid to support access, affordability, and successful completion. The Director oversees daily operations, supervises professional and student staff, manages budgets, monitors regulatory changes, and maintains accountability for Title IV and VA program compliance. This position plays a critical role in advancing institutional enrollment, retention, and student success goals by ensuring timely awarding, exceptional service, process improvement, and the responsible stewardship of college resources. The Director shall have the following responsibilities, but is not limited to: Responsible for maintaining Title IV Participation Agreement with the U.S Department of Education. Submits new programs for funding approval and ensures compliance with Title IV aid programs. Supports and actively participates in the college’s major initiatives for process improvement in financial aid and student services. Prepares, writes, and files College-wide institutional applications and reports for federal and state programs, which include the Fiscal Operations Report and Application to Participate (FISAP), the Financial Aid Reporting System Data Report (SCHEV report, S1/S2 and S5), and any other reports related to the programs administered. Answers questions and provides information during audits and official reviews to justify policies, procedures, and variances. Supervises, trains, and evaluates department staff; works with staff to assign responsibilities; determines department priorities and procedures; and ensures cross-training. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations regarding Financial Aid. Coordinates and oversees the awarding of grants. Oversees financial aid disbursements and performs monthly reconciliations with the U.S. Department of Education to maintain compliance. Collaborates with the SVCC Foundation Office to award and disburse scholarship funds. Administers satisfactory academic appeal (SAP) evaluation and appeal process for students seeking reinstatement of financial aid eligibility. Advises students, parents, staff, high school counselors, other college personnel, and off-campus sites on all aspects of student financial aid. Manages the department’s annual budget process. Approves and monitors office expenditures. Monitors fund balances in the institutional Student Information System (Oracle/PeopleSoft) and external systems. Take appropriate action to maximize usage of grant funds and to prevent over awards. Remain current on state and federal regulations and communicate changes to affected constituents. Attends internal and external meetings and conferences, and reports changes to program requirements. Ensures supervision of Work-Study students and appropriate administration of the program. Oversees the monitoring of enrollment reports to identify students subject to the Return to Title IV aid policy. Oversees and ensures that the College’s Veterans’ Benefits certification process is efficient, timely, and accurate.
