Job Description 
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.

Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.

Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for a Director of Financial Aid & Veteran Affairs. This is a full-time, twelve-month administrative faculty position, reporting directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs. The Director of Financial Aid and Veteran Affairs provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and professional direction for the College’s comprehensive financial aid and veteran affairs programs. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, VCCS, and institutional regulations while advancing a student-centered approach focused on access, affordability, persistence, retention, and student success.

The Director collaborates across the college to develop and implement processes, policies, and practices that support operational excellence, regulatory compliance, strategic enrollment management, and positive student experiences. The position serves as a member of the Student Affairs leadership team and contributes to institutional planning, student success initiatives, military-affiliated student support, and enrollment management efforts.

Special Assignments  | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications  | The successful candidate will possess a Masters in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. Experience with financial aid administration in a college or university setting. Experience interpreting and applying federal, state, VCCS, and institutional policies, regulations, and compliance requirements. Experience managing audits, reconciliation processes, and required reporting. Knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs, veteran educational benefits, financial aid systems, and disbursement processes. Strong analytical, organizational, and operational management skills.
Additional Considerations  | Management experience, preferably in a higher education financial aid setting, preferred. Experience in financial aid at a Commonwealth of Virginia college or community college, preferred.
