The Director of Residence Life has primary oversight for housing facilities and is responsible for strategic and long range planning; facilities/plant operations, maintenance, construction; and residential life programming including selection, training and supervision of student and professional staff; leadership development, and campus-wide student conduct.

Maajor accountabilites include: In partnership with Finance and Administration and in consultation with the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director is responsible for budget, procurement, and fiscal operations. The Director serves as a student conduct administrator for the institution. The Director serves as contract administrator and liaison for campus dining services and the senior housing officer for the institution. The Director serves as a senior member of the Student Affairs Division and the University and has a vital role in communicating the mission, goals and objectives of the Department to internal and external groups. Creating a positive living, learning, and campus community. This is primarily accomplished through: Establishing and implementing community standards that maximize student satisfaction, student safety, and academic support; Responding to and policy violations, resolving community complaints and concerns; Managing and overseeing student leaders in creating residential experiences.  Maintaining adequate occupancy of residence halls; and Retaining students through the entire year is a primary objective when in the best interest of the student and the university.
Responsibilities  | Research and develop strategies and long term planning for housing, staffing and programs. Communicate short and long term goals with department staff, student leaders, campus administrators, and University community. In partnership with Finance and Administration and in consultation with the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director provides leadership, oversight, direction, and coordination for financial operations, plant operations, and maintenance of all student housing facilities; project fiscal and program needs, occupancy and on-campus enrollment; develops and implements budget. Coordinate with housing staff and University departments for new construction, remodels and capital repair projects for student housing. Direct and/or coordinate social, educational, recreational and community service programs throughout the residence hall system. Select, train, supervise student employees; teach leadership course, coordinate and instruct in-service programs for student leaders. Oversee and Assess Student Learning Outcomes in student employees and resident students experience. Supervise and direct staff activities. Supervise contract dining operations. Coordinate and oversee housing and apartment application, contracting, and assignment process. Review all petitions for waivers to provisions of the Residence Life Contract. Meet with petitioners as needed, investigate claims and make determination if a waiver to any part of the contract is to be granted. Establish and coordinate an academic support system for struggling first year students within the residence halls; counsel with students and student staff as needed with a focus on student learning and personal development. Oversee the summer camp and conference program. Administer the student conduct process in alignment with the Code of Conduct. Review cases, counsel students, coordinate follow-up for sanctions. Attend Division staff meetings. Complete special assignments as directed and required by the Vice President. Maintain assessment tools for the department including establishing and promulgating annual goals and objectives, conducting student satisfactions inventories, learning outcomes assessment, meeting with stakeholders, developing and measuring learning outcomes for students and staff within housing, conduct, and student leadership experiences. Serve on various institutional committees and task forces including search committees, planning groups, proposal review groups and campus governance committees.
Minimum Qualifications  | Education:
MS or MA in Higher Education, Administration, College Student Personnel, Business Administration or similar.

ExperienceMinimum of 5 years of experience leading and managing communities in higher education, residential life, nonprofit, or public service settings. Relevant experience may include supervision, program oversight, and community engagement through roles in student affairs, housing programs, or local agencies such as housing authorities. A minimum of 10 years of cumulative experience in housing operations, which may include progressive involvement as a student leader in campus housing followed by professional roles in residence life, property management, housing coordination, or related fields. At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in supervision, including direct supervision of student employees and indirect oversight of professional or support staff. Experience should demonstrate the ability to train, mentor, and guide individuals or teams in achieving program or organizational goals.
Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.
