The Organization
Mundo Verde was founded in 2011 as Washington, DC’s first “green” public charter school.

Today, Mundo Verde serves over 1,200 students across two campuses. Our core

Position Overview: You will drive Mundo Verde’s success by shaping a caring, equitable,
and innovative work environment for approximately 300 employees across two campuses. 

As Director of Human Resources and a key member of the Mundo Verde staff, you will lead the strategy, operations, and culture of the HR function, ensuring compliance, strengthening organizational systems, and designing a joyful, thriving employee experience. You will plan, lead, and coordinate HR policies and programs; oversee the daily workflow of the HR team; partner with leaders to build equitable and human‐centered systems; and

supervise external partners. You will also serve as a trusted resource for employees seeking guidance, clarity, or support.

Key Responsibilities:
● HR Operations & Program Administration
○ Streamlines, automates, and/or redesigns HR workflows to improve the
employee experience and reduce friction for staff and managers.
○ Administers or oversees core HR programs, including compensation, benefits,
leave, performance management, recognition and morale, occupational health
and safety, and training and development:
■ Manages all aspects of benefits administration, including open
enrollment, vendor relationships, plan renewals, and employee support.
■ Oversees FMLA, ADA, and other leave programs, ensuring timely
communication, documentation, and compliance.
■ Administers the organization’s retirement plan and leads efforts to
redesign or improve plan structure and processes.
○ Ensures alignment across payroll, HRIS, and benefits systems, resolving
discrepancies and overseeing payroll compliance and reporting.
○ Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends, including reviewing
HRIS and talent‐management metrics to inform decision‐making and
continuous improvement.
○ Manages the HRIS (Paycom), including system configuration, data integrity,
regular audits, troubleshooting with vendors and internal stakeholders, and
onboarding HR staff to ensure consistent and effective use of workflows and
modules.
● Employee & Labor Relations
○ Designs and strengthens employee‐experience systems that promote
belonging, clarity, and trust across the organization.
○ Uses data, employee voice, and human‐centered design principles to identify
opportunities to improve the employee lifecycle (from onboarding to
offboarding).
○ Supports efforts to strengthen organizational culture, trust, and equity across
campuses and teams.
○ Fosters strong labor relations by participating in the Labor‐Management
Committee, engaging in collective bargaining, and leading or supporting
grievance processes, including responses to formal grievances and informal
inquiries from union partners.
○ Leads and completes employee‐relations investigations, providing clear
recommendations for corrective action.
○ Fosters strong employee relations by anticipating staff concerns, engaging
staff, and resolving conflicts.
● HR Strategy, Policy, and Compliance
○ Leads the development of equitable, user‐centered HR systems and processes
that are user-friendly, accessible, and aligned with organizational values.
○ Partners with leaders to translate organizational strategy into people‐centered
practices that support engagement, retention, and well‐being.
○ Plans, develops, and implements HR policies, processes, training, initiatives,
and surveys that advance organizational strategy, strengthen HR operational
effectiveness, and ensure compliance.
○ Monitors and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment
laws and regulations; updates policies and practices to maintain alignment with
legal requirements and best practices.
○ Prepares and submits HR‐related reports for accreditation bodies, union
requirements, leadership, and regulatory agencies, ensuring documentation
and recordkeeping meet all audit, accreditation, and compliance standards.
○ Maintains up‐to‐date knowledge of HR trends, regulatory changes, and
emerging technologies; advises leadership on implications and needed
adjustments.
○ Develops, updates, and communicates HR policies, handbooks, and
procedures to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance.
● Leadership & Team Collaboration
○ Serves as a trusted partner and advisor to managers and leaders on HR
policies and best practices, exercising sound judgment to support consistent,
compliant decision‐making.
○ Serves as collaborative leader of the HR workstream by preparing other team
members to provide effective, aligned, and high-caliber support of the HR
workstream. This includes creating operating procedures, process documents,
and reference materials; cross-training; overseeing colleagues' work; and
offering feedback.
○ Supports the Talent Director with recruitment work during peak seasons.
○ Communicates work priorities, deadlines, and shifting needs clearly and in
advance, ensuring the team can plan and respond effectively; engages in
proactive planning with colleagues.
○ Exhibits team-player mentality, stepping in to support colleagues as priorities
demand.

Terms of Employment:
● Schedule: Full-time, 8-hour workday
● Location: Network-based role serving both campuses
● Supervision: This position does not have any direct reports
● Position Type: This is a full-time, 12-month exempt salaried position, which is exempt
and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor
Standards Act

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational
Leadership, or a related field, or comparable experience.
● Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in Human Resources or Employee
Experience, including leadership or management responsibilities and exposure to core
HR functions.
● Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR compliance requirements, and HR best
practices.
● Demonstrated experience in employee relations or employee experience, including
investigations, policy interpretation, and performance management.
● Ability to lead equity‐focused culture work, build trust across lines of difference, and
remain steady and objective during complex or emotionally charged situations.
● Exceptional communication skills, including policy writing, employee communication,
and clear documentation, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive
information with professionalism, sound judgment, and appropriate boundaries.
● Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‐solving skills, with the ability to manage
multiple priorities and complex, multi‐step processes.
● Hands‐on experience with HRIS platforms; Paycom experience strongly preferred.
● Experience managing or partnering closely with core HR operations, including HRIS
administration, benefits and leave management, payroll coordination, and policy
implementation.
● Experience supporting organizational leadership through reporting, data analysis, and
compliance documentation that informs strategic decision‐making.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Public
Administration, or a related field.
● HR certification, such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
● Experience working in education, nonprofit organizations, or mission-driven
environments.
● Demonstrated ability to support organizational culture, equity, and
change‐management efforts.
● Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) preferred.
