Director of Veteran Student Success Full Description

Job Summary:

The Director of Veteran Student Success provides leadership and oversight for all programs related to student veterans including the operation of the Veteran Resource Center. The Director will lead efforts to assess and develop strategies to increase sense of belonging and success for veteran and military-affiliated students, including providing training for faculty and staff across campus to better serve student veterans. The role also serves and acts as TCU’s liaison with Veterans Affairs and the external community and will support the Student Emergency Fund administration.

Duties & Essential Job Functions:

1. Oversees the strategic planning, development, design, implementation, management, and assessment of student veteran programming, communications and services to achieve TCU’s mission and goals.
2. Manages the Veteran Resource Center space and the training and development of student staff, and ensures a professional presence during operating hours.
3. Oversees communication, outreach and marketing initiatives (policies and procedures, website, departmental correspondence, bulletins, website, etc.) in collaboration with Student Affairs Marketing and Communication.
4. Serves with the larger Student Success team to execute developmental programming with a customization specific to student veteran needs.
5. Collaborates with Veterans Affairs and other community partners/stakeholders to arrange educational activities and opportunities to enhance the knowledge and skills of veterans.
6. Recommends and implements new initiatives according to identified needs.
7. Collaborates with various campus entities/key contacts including but not limited to the VA certifying officials, Orientation, Transfer Admission, Student Success, Career Services, Student Life Analytics, Institutional Research, and academic support units to build a support network for student veterans.
8. Supports and provides guidance to military-affiliated student organizations.
9. Leads efforts to obtain recognition and funding from external organizations and publications to strengthen the veteran student experience and culture.
10. Provides training and information sessions for the university community to increase awareness and understanding of military-affiliated needs.
11. Develops and manages departmental budget.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, student development, higher education administration, human resources, management or an area related to military affairs.
• 5 years of experience as an administrator overseeing services or programs for military service members.
• Experience working with veteran populations.

Preferred Education & Experience:

• Master’s degree in counseling, social work, student development, higher education administration, human resources, management or an area related to military affairs.
• College administrative experience with veterans.
• Status as a military veteran.
• Bilingual

• Skill in maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Skill in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data.
