Description of Work  | Reporting to the assistant vice chancellor for Student Life and Dean of Students, The Director provides leadership for the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) department, guiding its mission to facilitate equal and integrated access to the academic, social, cultural and recreational programs offered at UNL.

The Director will: Work collaboratively with students with disabilities, faculty, and staff to determine and implement reasonable accommodations. Foster the independent decision-making skills necessary to achieve personal and academic success for students. Administer, develop, coordinate, and evaluate the support services for students with disabilities within the framework of federal and state regulations and university policies and procedures. Actively engage in planning strategic initiatives, assessing services, and representing SSD within Student Life.

Minimum Required Qualifications  | Master’s degree Four years’ experience working with students with disabilities in post-secondary institution. Knowledge of ADA AA/504 mandated post-secondary academic adjustments and services to students with disabilities. Knowledge of Title II regulations. Two years of experience supervising staff. Experience in program development, presentations, and outreach. Experience developing, implementing, and managing a budget. Ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and work effectively with students, faculty, and administrative constituencies required. Knowledge of federal and state laws related to providing disability accommodations in a university or college setting and in compliance with ADA and Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is required. Knowledge of assistive and accessible information technologies including digital and web content is required. Ability to evaluate learning difficulties using various diagnostic assessment tools, interpret disability documentation, recommend, and implement reasonable accommodations. Must be able to manage sensitive and confidential information professionally and appropriately. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively to large groups. Strong verbal and written communication, analytical and organization skills.

Preferred Qualifications  | Master’s degree in disability studies, education, higher education or related field. Experience with Universal Design for Learning and Title II Regulations.
