Job Description
Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking and many other activities.
The Employee Engagement and Professional Learning & Development Specialist supports a culture of continuous learning, engagement, and organizational excellence by designing, coordinating, and implementing employee development and engagement initiatives that support the College’s mission and strategic priorities. Working collaboratively with Human Resources, College leadership, faculty, staff, and administrators, this position supports the development and delivery of professional learning opportunities, employee engagement programs, recognition initiatives, onboarding experiences, and internal communications that enhance the employee experience. The Specialist promotes workforce development, supports employee success and retention, and advances a positive, inclusive workplace culture through strategic communication, collaboration, and innovative learning solutions.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, coordinate, and implement employee engagement initiatives that foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture aligned with the College’s mission and strategic goals. Research, develop, and communicate employee engagement strategies, professional learning resources, policies, procedures, and best practices through clear, engaging written communications and presentations. Partner with stakeholders to develop, coordinate, and facilitate comprehensive onboarding, orientation, and continuous learning opportunities that support employee success, professional growth, and organizational effectiveness. Coordinate, track, and maintain records of required employee training and professional development activities to ensure compliance and support workforce development goals. Develop, implement, and continuously enhance employee learning and development programs, career growth initiatives, recognition and appreciation programs, mentorship opportunities, and employee retention strategies. Create and manage internal communications, including quarterly newsletters, learning calendars, recognition campaigns, and other engagement materials using a variety of communication platforms. Assess organizational learning and development needs by collaborating with leadership, supervisors, and employees to design targeted workshops, leadership development programs, and skill-building opportunities. Evaluate the effectiveness of employee engagement and professional development initiatives through surveys, participation metrics, and feedback, using data to recommend continuous improvements. Support strategic initiatives that enhance employee experience, organizational effectiveness, and workforce engagement.
Special Assignments | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Experience in human resources, employee engagement, organizational development, professional learning, training and development, higher education administration, or a related field. Experience developing written communications, training materials, newsletters, or other employee engagement resources. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize competing deadlines, and work independently while collaborating effectively with various stakeholders. Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using learning management systems (LMS), human resources information systems (HRIS), or other technology platforms used to support employee learning and engagement.
Additional Considerations
Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating professional development programs, coordinating employee engagement initiatives, managing organizational communications, and collaborating with various stakeholders to foster a culture of continuous learning and employee success is highly desirable. Experience designing employee engagement initiatives, leadership development programs, succession planning, or organizational culture initiatives. Experience analyzing employee engagement data, survey results, and program outcomes to support continuous improvement. Experience planning and coordinating employee recognition, appreciation, and wellness initiatives. Knowledge of Creative Cloud programs including, InDesign, Photoshop. Proficiency using Adobe Acrobat DC and Microsoft Office programs Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint Knowledge of Canvas or similar learning management systems Working knowledge of the agency’s policies and operations
