Job Description
Career and Professional Development (CPD) is a centralized office of over 30 staff members dedicated to educating and supporting students as they explore and choose academic majors and career options, obtain and reflect upon career-related experiences, develop professional presence and essential skills for workplace success, and launch post-graduation career plans, including graduate/professional school and employment.
The Events and Marketing Assistant will assist in the creation of electronically produced publications, including news articles, advertisements, logos and graphics, display materials, collateral pieces and production ready art. The desired candidate will be comfortable serving as a contact for social media channels managed by the office. In addition to marketing, this position will serve as an event assistant, providing support for the planning, implementation, and wrap-up of office events.
The Events and Marketing Assistant reports to the Assistant Director for Events and Marketing, working on a team that supports CPD staff, programs, and events. This position is a part-time wage position, which does not include benefits, to include 24-29 hours per week.
EVENTS - Assist in venue and vendor coordination, to include on- and off-campus locations and caterers - Coordinate event logistics with the Events and Marketing team and/or other CPD staff members - Assist in promoting events through various channels, including social media, email, and print material - Provide on-site support for events, including setup/breakdown, A/V, food and beverage, and check-in, as needed
MARKETING - Assist in creating engaging content for social media, website, and email campaigns - Monitor and manage social media accounts, responding to inquiries and engaging with followers - Create and schedule social media posts - Contribute to the creation and execution of high-quality marketing materials, including graphics creation for various programs and events Essential
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communication, or graphic design or equivalent training/experience
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency with software programs in a business setting including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite software, and similar programs
- Experience managing and taking initiative with projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in publication activities such as writing, editing, designing, and preparing materials for brochures, newsletters, fliers, and press releases in a university setting
- Previous experience creating and deploying social media (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) for the purpose of business promotions
- Experience with communications and marketing in a university environment, including
knowledge of and adhering to a brand and style guide
- Knowledge of accessibility requirements for marketing materials including flyers, digital ads, and videos
- Skill in photography and videography
- Experience with vendor products utilized in the career services field such as Handshake and uConnect
