Job Description  |

Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge.  MGCC provides opportunities for the extension of knowledge, skills and personal enrichment in an environment that maintains high academic standards and respect for each individual. The college strives to keep programs and services financially and geographically accessible for all students.  Credit and non-credit courses are offered to meet life-long learning needs. The Executive Director of the College Educational Foundation is the chief advancement officer for the College and in this role provides leadership for increasing the level of external resources from public and private sources to support the programmatic and capital needs and aspirations of the College. This position advises the President on all matters pertaining to the college’s fundraising strategy and is also responsible for providing visionary leadership in building, maintaining, and strengthening relationships between and among the College’s internal departments/divisions and critical funding sources including individuals, corporations, and foundations.

The following duties include: Provide overall vision and strategic direction for the Educational Foundation to increase the level of external resources from public and private sources to support the programmatic and capital needs of the College. Ensure compliance with all laws concerning the governance of an independent 501.c.3 and rigid adherence to the memorandum of understanding between the College and the College Foundation; provide leadership, oversight, and coordination to the Foundation Board of Directors. Provide strategic leadership for the College’s/ Foundation’s fundraising activities; including, but not limited to, research, data, campaign efforts, advancement communications, all manner of solicitation, annual funds, planned giving programs, and fundraising events. Create and execute a fundraising plan with clearly defined goals, timeframes, and metrics based on the College’s strategic plan. Meet and exceed annual fundraising goals as defined by the College’s President and Educational Foundation. Identify key prospects, conceptualize, prioritize and plan initiatives to cultivate prospective donors. Actively maintain donor information on the Foundation database. Develop and maintain the Foundation’s planned giving program. Oversee the College’s public and private grant programs, as well as grant stewardship and grant compliance. Develop relationships and establish funding opportunities through private/corporate sector initiatives. Oversee the development of strategies and initiatives for all alumni relations activities and related programs. Provide leadership for the MGCC Educational Foundation through advising the board and the board president and implementing the board’s decisions and the adopted policies. Provide leadership for the staff through collaboration with all college departments and the deployment of staff and budget resources. Coordinate the work of the Educational Foundation Board of Directors and its committees. Provide direct support to the MGCC President. Prepare a variety of written reports including foundation reports, letters, brochures, grant applications, and other documents. Develop and manage the College Foundation budgets. Provide leadership for stewardship of Educational Foundation funds through sound fiscal management policies, procedures, and strategies. Monitor all Educational Foundation processes, data, records, and systems for efficiency and accuracy. Administers all gifts with the donors’ intent, investment policies, scholarship criteria, foundation by-laws, audit requirements, tax requirements, state requirements for charitable organizations, and college policies.
