The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
The Department of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated Finance and Accounting Coordinator to join our dynamic administrative team. This individual will play a vital role in supporting the Department’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across a range of fiscal activities.

Working closely with the Department’s finance leadership, this position supports daily and periodic financial processes including invoice processing, requisition creation, core account reconciliation, and monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close. The coordinator will also provide coverage and financial support across Medicine divisions as needed and will help facilitate centralized core purchases for the Department.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (on-site initially, hybrid schedule thereafter)

Responsibilities
  • Process invoices and create requisitions in accordance with University and CUIMC financial policies.
  • Reconcile core and divisional accounts, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
  • Monitor spending across various funding sources—including grants, gifts, and unrestricted funds—to ensure appropriate and compliant use of resources.
  • Provide backup coverage and financial support for divisions within the Department of Medicine.
  • Assist with centralized Medicine purchases and other core financial activities.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Columbia University, CUIMC, and Department of Medicine policies and procedures, ensuring compliance at all times.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, plus three years of experience.
  • Solid understanding of accrual accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, follow instructions carefully, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to collaborative teamwork.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant financial or accounting experience, preferably in a university, healthcare, or research setting.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with Columbia University financial systems and policies highly desirable.

  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
