Job Description 
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Position Summary:
The Financial Aid Assistant will provide general financial aid information and other related supportive services to students, parents, and the general public in a precise, accurate, and friendly manner. To educate and instruct constituents on various federal, state, and local processes related to financial aid and the subsequent responsibilities.

Functional Responsibilities:
Financial Aid Duties Independently and collaboratively assist with managing high volume financial aid customer service environment Effectively communicate with diverse populations in various individual/group settings and assist with facilitating (i.e. informational sessions, Open Houses, Orientation, classes, etc.) Educate students on how to accurately complete FAFSA, loan and other financial aid related documents Access various student information systems to accurately review, analyze, track and interpret student accounts and financial aid awarding process Serve as a liaison between the campus and Central Financial Aid Department (CFA) Assist the Financial Aid Coordinator and advisors with various assigned and special duties (i.e. organizing packets, reviewing student submitted documents, collect scholarship and work-study applications, etc.) Review problem/ incomplete student files, research and resolve issues which prevent financial aid awarding Attend campus and college-wide meetings and training sessions to remain current with federal, state and institutional policies and procedures
 
IMAGE NOW System Duties Scan all prepared documents (SAP, verification, Special Circumstances, Dependency Overrides, scholarship applications, Permit to Disclose forms, etc.) Batch and log all scanned files Review Workflow (review and analyze student submitted documents; monitors and resolves all student problem files through research, referrals, follow up phone calls, mailings, etc.) Contact students with pending files Supportive Services
 
Supportive Services Assist with supporting all designated financial aid areas in various capacities Serve as a designee for the Scholarship and Outreach Advisor assist with review and management of scholarship applications assist with maintaining outreach calendar (SDV presentations, preventative workshops, Financial Aid Awareness/Expo, Quick Advice, etc.) Respond to faculty, parent and student inquires Answer incoming calls/return student & parent calls in a timely manner Greet financial aid constituents File various confidential student files and a secure area Monitor Navigate System and other relevant systems Generate reports as needed Fax, mail, etc. documents to students and requesting internal/external agencies
