Job Description Summary
The Financial Aid Office (FAO) at Eastern Oregon University (EOU) is currently accepting applications for a Financial Aid Counselor/Scholarship Coordinator (FACSC). The Financial Aid Counselor position is part of the SEIU Classified Staff bargaining unit at the classification title of Administrative Program Specialist (APS). This is a 12-Month, Full-Time, 1.0 FTE position that fully qualifies for all of the benefits offered.

The Financial Aid Counselor/Scholarship Coordinator APS position is responsible for counseling current students and educating prospective students and their families about federal, state, local, and institutional aid programs. This position is also responsible for conducting EOU’s scholarship program operations, including Federal Work-Study.

The position assists students daily with questions and helps students complete all required financial aid documentation. This position also processes EOU award and EOU Foundation scholarship award lists, and collaborates with other departments at on-campus and off-site recruitment and retention events.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct customer service to current students, prospective students, parents, and supporters and respond to phone and email requests from them.
  • Provide expert assistance and advice to students seeking student aid from federal, state, institutional, and private sources.
  • Work with these populations to find and solve their financial aid problems and facilitate the delivery of their financial aid.
  • Counsel students regarding debt and their rights and responsibilities as student loan borrowers.
  • Advise students about their annual and aggregate loan limits.
  • Operate the scholarship program.
  • Adjust student aid when necessary due to the receipt of outside resources (scholarships and third-party payments, including staff fee).
  • Federal Work-Study requests are processed by this position.
  • Review and processes student verification documentation.
  • Review and processes student budget adjustments.
  • Review and process SAP each term/year for scholarship renewability.
  • Resolve errors and help students make corrections so that the FAFSA can be processed successfully.
  • Review and process professional judgments as needed.
  • Review documentation from multiple sources showing that a student who would normally be dependent can be considered independent.
  • Exit counseling and Default Prevention/Management

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of experience as an administrative specialist or executive support specialist which included administrative support for a project, program, or operation. Administrative support includes those duties beyond clerical/secretarial such as: interpretation of laws, rules, and regulations; administrative data collection and analysis; and evaluation of projects, processes, and operations; OR
  • an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and experience to actively cooperate in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Excellent computer, math and database skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary.
  • Adhere to all federal and state regulations, and to office policies.
  • Adhere to high accuracy and quality standards.
  • Manage own time and workload.
  • Promote EOU’s mission, values and principles.
