Job Description
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
This position will facilitate the awarding and disbursing of scholarships; maintain a comprehensive scholarship database for tracking of funds and monitoring of eligibility criteria; coordinate the electronic scholarship application process including database maintenance and training for users;
Perform activities related to the administration of the Alternative Loan Program. Gather necessary information and complete steps to prepare loan applications for certification. Ensure that all eligibility criteria are satisfied. Manage the application response process in order to facilitate timely awarding and disbursing of funds. Perform supportive level duties to maintain office structure and continual flow of work and to provide information updates to various loan partners as required.
Special Assignments | May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
• Experience in federal and state financial aid program operations.
• Experience with data entry and database management.
• Experience with operation of computer, facsimile, 10-key calculator and copier machine.
• Training in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of Federal and State educational financial aid programs, including most recent rules and regulations issued by the Department of Education.
• Knowledge of and ability to work with general accounting procedures.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume deadline driven environment.
• Ability to evaluate student financial aid applications for compliance with federal rules and regulations.
• Ability to interpret Student Aid Reports and other information to conduct needs analysis.
• Ability to solve problems, work accurately with details, and organize data and work.
• Ability to accurately key data into student information system and reconcile data with computer printouts.
• Ability to create documents using word processing software in a Windows environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work independently and as a team to achieve team goals.
• Maintain access to all federal financial aid related software programs.
