Financial Analyst, Publishing & Digital Content

Salary Range:
$105,000.00 To $125,000.00 Annually

Position Summary
The Financial Analyst, Publishing & Digital Content supports data-driven decision-making by connecting financial performance with product, operational, and market metrics across Springer’s publishing and digital content portfolio. This role is responsible for benchmarking business performance, analyzing profitability trends, evaluating business models, and identifying early indicators that inform strategic and operational planning. The analyst partners closely with cross-functional teams to enhance reporting, forecasting, and insight development across all print and digital products.

Key Responsibilities

Financial & Operational Reporting

  • Develop and maintain financial and operational dashboards that track key publishing and digital content metrics.

  • Enhance reporting processes to improve data interpretation, efficiency, and transparency.

  • Integrate ERP, CRM, digital analytics, and sales data into actionable insights.

  • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly performance reports for Finance leadership and the executive team.

Budgeting, Forecasting, & Scenario Modeling

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and reforecasting processes by integrating financial and operational inputs.

  • Build predictive and scenario models to assess the impact of publishing and digital business model decisions.

  • Identify early indicators of success or risk through modeling and trend analysis.

  • Benchmark performance pre- and post-launch to evaluate profitability, format mix, and market impact.

Profitability & Performance Analysis

  • Analyze title-level and divisional profit and loss statements to assess trends in revenue, margins, and product format performance across print and digital content.

  • Evaluate key profitability drivers and provide recommendations for improving financial results.

  • Conduct business case analyses for new initiatives, formats, and digital content strategies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product, Editorial, Marketing, and Sales to align financial insights with publishing objectives and product performance.

  • Participate in strategic and tactical planning sessions.

  • Ensure alignment between financial outcomes and organizational strategy across departments.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Analytics, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in financial and/or business analysis, ideally within publishing, media, or educational content industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial performance and interpret business metrics in a content-driven environment.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and experience with BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI); SQL preferred.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as Acumen or comparable financial platforms.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
