Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary | Under the direction of the Collections Manger of the Escalette Collection Permanent Art Collection, an academic unit of Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, the Graphic Designer will assist with a range of graphic design projects including: creating object labels, designing exhibition didactics, working with printers to prepare projects for print on various materials, printing labels and other projects using the Design/Create/Innovate (DCI) lab, creating installation mock-ups, and designing flyers, newsletters, and other promotional material as needed. The successful candidate will be able to work within brand guidelines while also working collaboratively with exhibition curators to develop creative visual strategies.
Responsibilities | Create and design didactics ranging from titles, interactive displays, and extended object labels for exhibitions throughout campus according to best practices established by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). Ensure all designs are consistent with Escalette Collection brand guidelines. Coordinate with printers to prepare files for print on various materials. Print labels, stickers, and other materials at the Design/Create/Innovate (DCI) lab as needed. Assist the Collections Manger to create mock-ups of installations. Assist Social Media student worker with creating social media posts as needed. Edit photographs of events, artworks, and installations. Assist with designing flyers, monthly newsletter, and other promotional materials. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications | Professional, dependable, organized, and able to multi-task Strong knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles Creativity problem solving and adaptability in developing new ideas Ability to work well and quickly under pressure, both individually and as a part of a team. Interest in exhibition design and the desire to explore this interest in a professional setting. Excellent project management skills to consistently meet deadlines. Familiarity with, or interest in learning, technology at the Design/Create/Innovate (DCI) Lab. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
