Job Description Summary
The Guggenheim Gallery Assistant supports the daily operation of the gallery while developing a particular area of responsibility in social media and digital media. All Gallery Assistants share general responsibilities, including supervising exhibitions, maintaining clean and organized gallery spaces, assisting visitors and public programs, and supporting exhibition installation, artwork handling, and gallery operations. In addition to these shared responsibilities, the Social Media and Digital Media Assistant supports the gallery’s online presence through social media management, content creation, exhibition and event documentation, website updates, and digital outreach.
Responsibilities

All Student Guggenheim Gallery Assistants are expected to:
  • Supervise exhibitions during gallery hours.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional gallery spaces.
  • Assist visitors and support public programs.
  • Support exhibition installation and deinstallation (breakdown).
  • Handle, pack, transport, and store artwork safely.
  • Maintain artwork inventory, condition reports, and related records.
  • Assist with events, scheduling, and day-to-day gallery operations.
  • Contribute to the general operation of the gallery regardless of area of specialization.
Social Media Coordinators also:
  • Manage the gallery’s Instagram and other social media platforms.
  • Develop, schedule, and publish engaging social media content.
  • Create photography, video, graphics, and written content highlighting exhibitions, artists, and programs.
  • Document exhibitions, installations, and events for archival and promotional purposes.
  • Update digital content on the gallery website and other online platforms.
  • Monitor audience engagement and respond to comments, messages, and inquiries as appropriate.
  • Track social media performance and identify opportunities for increased engagement.
  • Research and implement strategies to expand the gallery’s digital reach and public visibility.
  • Support promotional efforts for exhibitions, events, and public programs.
  • Collaborate with gallery staff, artists, and partners to develop content and storytelling initiatives.
