Job Summary | Employee Relations Case Generalist II – Job Summary:The Employee Relations Case Generalist is responsible for managing and coordinating the resolution of employee relations cases with a focus on appeal processes. This position will manage employee appeals processes, including reviewing and compiling appeal-related documents before submitting them for a formal review.
This role is responsible for ensuring the compliant handling of employee concerns in alignment with organizational policies. In addition, the position manages requests under the Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA) and other records requests and serves as a key contributor to the University of Utah’s employee service awards Program.
A successful candidate for this position will possess proven experience exercising strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and external stakeholders. We are looking for someone who has excellent attention to detail and who can independently establish priorities and proceed with objectives. This person must be a diplomatic communicator who is comfortable with conflict resolution and has the capacity to deescalate and manage complex processes. This position is classified as an HR Generalist II and is expected to conduct work assignments of increasing complexity under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.
This position is hybrid, so the incumbent will be required to work at least one day per week onsite, but will also be able to telecommute. An employee hired into this role who telecommutes will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking, and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and sign the University of Utah Telecommuting Agreement

Responsibilities | Employee Relations Case Generalist II – Key Responsibilities: Manage appeal processes: Oversee employee appeals related to disciplinary actions, terminations, or other employment decisions, ensuring compliance with organizational policy and legal standards. Manage case processes, tracking appeals from start to finish, communicating deliverables and expectations to stakeholders, ensure deadlines are met, and cases are handled in a consistent manner. Documentation: Maintain accurate, confidential records of cases, appeals, and resolutions. GRAMA requests: Coordinate with the Office of General Counsel to gather data, for review and dissemination of records to the appropriate parties in compliance with GRAMA requirements. Employee Services Awards: Coordinate with employees, departments and vendors to administer the employee service award program across the University. Cost reallocation: Review, adjust, reassign, and reconcile costs to the correct accounts, ensuring accuracy and accountability.
Minimum Qualifications | EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Generalist, II: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences | Employee Relations Case Generalist II – Preferences: Familiarity with employee relations or any type of case management involving the ability to interpret policy or law. Administer complex processes involving multiple stakeholders. Strong customer service experience involving high levels of contact via verbal and written communications. Past administrative work including managing budgets and financial processes.
