NSF Skilled Training in Administration and Institutional Research (STAIR) Program
Position: Part-Time Graphic Designer - Proposal Development
Hourly Rate: $30-50/hour, commensurate with experience
Hours: Approximately 15-20 hours/week
Start Date: December 1, 2025

The NSF Skilled Training in Administration and Institutional Research (STAIR) program at the Huck Institutes of Life Sciences at Penn State is seeking a skilled, creative and collaborative Graphic Designer with a strong eye for visual storytelling, precision in execution, and experience translating complex ideas into clear and engaging designs. This is a part-time, wage payroll position with the option to work remotely or in a hybrid capacity.
Key Responsibilities-
- Collaborate with faculty, research administrators, project manager, and team leads develop cohesive visual strategies.
- Design charts, graphs, infographics, and illustrations to effectively communicate complex data and concepts.
- Ensure visual accuracy, alignment, and high-quality resolution in final materials.
- Integrate visual elements consistently with organizational branding guidelines and proposal requirements.
Required Qualifications-
- Professional experience in graphic design with a strong portfolio demonstrating creative and technical skills.
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or equivalent).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering high-quality work within established timelines.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, fast-paced team with multiple deadlines, stakeholders and complexity.
Preferred Qualifications-
- Experience supporting grant or proposal development, particularly in higher education or research settings.
- Familiarity with academic publishing, research dissemination, or federally funded projects.
