ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy.
As an instructional designer at ISO New England, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how the region’s electricity stakeholders learn, adapt, and succeed in a rapidly evolving market. You’ll go beyond developing training products—you’ll lead complex initiatives, and bring innovative, performance-based learning strategies to life. This role is an opportunity to directly influence both the market’s readiness and ISO’s reputation for excellence in participant training.

How you will make an impact:
- Lead the design and development of engaging, performance-based training solutions across multiple formats (eLearning, video, ILT, webinars, job aids, tooltips, and more).
- Partner with content contributors and business partners to analyze needs, define clear learning objectives, and ensure training aligns with ISO’s goals and regulatory requirements.
- Apply adult learning principles and agile development methods to create products that meet learners in the flow of work.
- Manage complex, multi-product training projects end-to-end, balancing scope, timeline, and quality while modeling effective project management practices.
- Contribute to evolving departmental standards, tools, and processes to increase quality, efficiency, and consistency across projects.
- Facilitate or support delivery of live training (in-person and virtual) as needed, ensuring sessions are interactive and impactful.
- Stay current on instructional technology and learning science trends, introducing new methods and tools where appropriate.
What you need to be successful in this role:
- Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, communications, technical field, or related discipline; Master’s degree or professional certifications a plus.
- 6+ years of experience designing and delivering learning solutions with measurable impact, ideally in a technical or regulated environment.
- Proven expertise in applying adult learning principles, action mapping, and performance-based design strategies.
- Strong track record of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously and delivering on time.
- Proficiency with authoring and creative tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, PowerPoint) and collaboration platforms (SharePoint, Asana, LMS/CMS).
- Experience publishing and managing content in enterprise-level learning platforms (Cornerstone, Appinium, or similar).
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and influence content contributors and business partners.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor peers, improve team practices, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
