The Instructional Learning Designer supports the design, development, and implementation of K–16 STEMM curriculum that translates authentic St. Jude research into engaging, classroom-ready learning experiences. This role collaborates with researchers, physicians, educators, and internal teams to create interactive, standards-aligned instructional materials that foster scientific thinking, data literacy, and student curiosity.
The Instructional Learning Designer contributes to curriculum development across the full design lifecycle, from concept and storyboarding to development, implementation, and evaluation, ensuring all learning experiences are accessible, rigorous, and grounded in real-world science.

Work Location Requirement
This position is primarily remote; however, candidates must reside in the Memphis, TN, area and be available to attend in-person meetings, events, and collaborative sessions on the St. Jude campus as needed.

The St. Jude STEMM Education and Outreach Program is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Instructional Designer to join our STEMM Education and Outreach Program, where they will play a key role in developing engaging, interactive science learning modules for K–16 students. In this position, the Instructional Designer will collaborate closely with subject matter experts, educators, and program staff to translate complex scientific concepts into accessible, age-appropriate content that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and hands-on exploration. The ideal candidate brings experience in curriculum development or e-learning, a strong understanding of instructional design principles, and familiarity with digital learning tools and platforms. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative educational initiatives that inspire and support the next generation of STEMM learners.

List any requirements unique to this position in this department
  • Designs and develops K–16 STEMM curriculum and innovative educational materials aligned to relevant standards. Applies current instructional design methodologies and selects appropriate resources to support learning
  • Collaborates with St. Jude researchers, physicians, and subject matter experts to translate complex biomedical research and scientific concepts into engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences
  • Develops interactive digital modules, teacher-facing materials, and student resources using current multimedia development tools, software, and hardware
  • Writes and edits content as necessary. Reviews content for accuracy and quality.
  • Supports storyboarding, scripting, and development of multimedia content, including working with internal teams and external partners
  • Applies instructional design processes (e.g., ADDIE) to support curriculum development from planning through implementation, evaluation, and revision, including incorporating feedback to improve learning experiences
  • Manages project timelines and collaborates with team members to ensure deliverables are completed on schedule; participates in team strategic planning to support alignment with education program goals and objectives ​
  • Maintains professional growth and development through attendance of seminars, conferences, workshops, or classes to keep abreast of software, hardware and education trends.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance

Minimum Education and/or Training:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Learning/Instructional Design, Education/Instructional Technology, Adult Education, or related field is required
  • Master’s degree preferred

Minimum Experience:
  • Three (3) years’ experience that includes web-based learning programs, administration of learning and content management systems, multimedia development, instructional design, web design, and video recording, production and editing

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $65,520 - $114,400 per year for the role of Instructional Learning Designer - STEMM Education and Outreach Program (Hybrid).
