Job Duties:
The Universities of Wisconsin Office of Online & Professional Learning Resources (OPLR) Instructional Design and Media Services Team is focused on developing rich and engaging learning experiences for online students. OPLR is seeking an Instructional Media Specialist who is passionate about graphic, video, and audio design and eager to bring online courses to life with high-quality instructional media.
This role will design and produce user-centered multimedia assets, interactive elements, graphics, animations, videos, and more while leveraging innovative tools such as OPLR’ on-site media studio, lightboards, teleprompters, drones, and advanced editing software.
This position collaborates with a talented team of designers, motion artists, UX experts, and videographers in a supportive, idea-driven environment, where creativity and technical expertise will directly enhance online teaching and learning. The team’s media creations will directly impact thousands of students by making learning more engaging, accessible, and effective.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Partner with faculty, subject matter experts, and instructional designers to plan course media strategies and formulate media plans and production schedules
- Apply project management principles and clear communication practices to ensure project success and timely completion
- Design and format instructional presentations for visually appealing and pedagogically sound delivery using e-learning authoring tools
- Edit and export audio and video files; create and refine images, graphics, and animations
- Coordinate with third-party captioning and transcription providers to ensure accessibility compliance
- Perform post-production tasks: editing, audio adjustments, color correction, and finalizing content for delivery
- Manage file storage, archiving, versioning, and back-up processes for media assets

The Office of Online & Professional Learning Resources (OPLR) is committed to providing service and support to the Universities of Wisconsin Administration and all 13 UW universities in online and continuing education, teaching, learning, and workforce skills training and resources.
OPLR works in partnership with all 13 UW universities to develop and deliver online semester- and competency-based degrees and a broad array of credit and non-credit certificates, courses, and other credentials to help adult and professional learners achieve their academic and professional development goals and to develop the workforce of Wisconsin.
OPLR supports Wisconsin Online, Wisconsin Online Collaboratives, UW Flexible Option, BSN@Home, UW Independent Learning and continuing education offices at all 13 UW universities through the Continuing Education Executive Council (CEEC).
Compensation:
The Instructional Media Specialist (official title: Teachning, Learning, and Technology Specialist I or II) is a full-time, salaried (exempt), academic staff position.
Well-qualified candidates for the Instructional Media Specialist role can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $49,000-66,000, commensurate with the candidate’s education, related experience, and qualifications.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in video/audio design, multimedia design, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience
- Demonstrated experience in media production, including storyboarding, audio work, video editing, and post-production
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills with the ability to thrive in a team-based environment
- Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and complete projects effectively in a dynamic setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in video/audio design, multimedia production, or a related field
- Experience working in higher education and directly with faculty
- Familiarity with ADA compliance (WCAG 2.1 AA) and best practices in accessible media for online learning
- Experience or interest in applying artificial intelligence tools to enhance workflows, media development, and web interactives
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Audition
Work Location:
The business location is 
780 Regent St., Madison, WI. Employees are expected to work in the office at least twice a month. However, depending on business needs, there may be occasions when additional in-office presence is requested. Flexible Work agreements are subject to change at any time
