Instructional Technologist Description
     
South College is seeking a Contract Instructional Technologist to support institutional initiatives focused on improving the accessibility and quality of online course materials. This remote, project-based role will work collaboratively with academic departments, instructional designers, and technical teams to review and update course content to meet WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards and institutional best practices. 

The ideal candidate will have experience working within Learning Management Systems (particularly Canvas) and will be comfortable applying accessibility standards to digital learning materials. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple course remediation projects simultaneously, and the discipline to work independently while maintaining project timelines. 

This contract role is expected to last no longer than 18 months.
  
Responsibilities
  • Review and update online course content to align with WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards and institutional accessibility guidelines.
  • Remediate instructional materials within the Canvas Learning Management System, including pages, assignments, files, and multimedia content.
  • Apply accessibility best practices to documents, presentations, media, and other course resources.
  • Utilize accessibility evaluation tools and course auditing processes to identify and address barriers to accessibility.
  • Work collaboratively with instructional designers, faculty, and academic teams to implement accessibility improvements across courses.
  • Utilize and adapt to various learning technologies and software platforms used within the institution.
  • Maintain clear documentation of remediation work and progress across assigned courses or programs.
  • Manage assigned remediation projects to ensure completion within established timelines and project milestones.
  • Work independently while maintaining accountability for deliverables and progress updates.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with project leads and team members to review status, priorities, and workflow adjustments.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Education, Business, IT, HR, or a related field. 

Experience
  • 1-year minimum instructional design or educational technology experience. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with Learning Management Systems (Canvas preferred).
  • Working knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards (preferably WCAG 2.2) and their application to digital learning environments.
  • Experience remediating digital learning materials such as PDFs, Word documents, PowerPoint presentations, multimedia, and web-based content.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to track multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and instructional design teams on course improvement projects.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining high accountability and productivity.
