The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia applicants for an Instructional Technology Specialist. This role will address client needs with the development of appropriate strategies for implementing learning technology across a broad range of academic programs and initiatives. They provide training, documentation, testing, and technical support. The role manages course development and delivery for the McIntire school’s online and hybrid programs as well as provides support for traditional programs making use of LMS tools.
Key Responsibilities:
Online Course Management System – 50%
- Support online course management systems at McIntire (Currently Canvas, managed by the University and D2L, managed by McIntire LMS)
- Administrator, course creation, load rosters from Admissions Systems, one-on-one training for LMS, group creation, and postings, Survey administration, Content loading and testing, Course layout and design, Reporting on participation
- Tier two helpdesk support for student issues with LMS access and features
- Support faculty in getting their course content up and on the system – ready for ADA compliant student access
Support and Training for Information Platforms – 30%
- In coordination with training coordinator, develop and deliver training resources for McIntire information sharing platforms (currently Pathify, Localist, Korbyt)
- As necessary, support the information sharing platforms from a tier 2 support model
- Develop detailed work plans, schedules, projected estimates, resource plans, and status reports and is responsible for ensuring adherence to quality standards, reviewing project deliverables, and project tracking and analysis
- Coordinate the IT dimensions of the platforms with the content authors and designers
- Promote and encourage effective use of the information sharing platforms by the McIntire community
Innovation for Online and Hybrid Programs – 10%
- Working with the instructional design team, improvement of the online student experience
- Look and Feel improvements of online portal
- Tools selection and implementation
- Delivery of Training to facilitate faculty adoption of tools
Other Duties as Assigned – 10%
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Two years of instructional computing experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success as a technology professional with experience in the private, public, and/or nonprofit sectors
- Experience in Web design and scripting (HTML, CSS, and Javascript)
- Experience with LMS administration, including Canvas and D2L (Back End administration of the D2L platform is highly desired)
The candidate should have demonstrated success in managing effective teams built on trust, open communication, and shared goals. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, along with the ability to connect with and support the career and educational needs of college students. Experience in program management and budgeting is important, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
We are seeking someone who has participated in communities that value excellence and who has experience working with multiple constituencies and navigating layered governance structures. The ideal candidate will be a strong decision maker with excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills, committed to a culture of customer service. Adaptability, resilience, and technological proficiency in online education environments are key, along with experience in instructional design.
Anticipated hiring range: $65,000 - $75,000, commensurate with education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
