IT Specialist - Financial Aid and Scholarships Full Description

James Madison University is hiring an IT Specialist - Financial Aid and Scholarships in Harrisonburg, VA. This is a full-time, non-exempt classified staff position within the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Position Summary
The Information Technology Specialist will assist various areas of the Financial Aid Office with technical and communication strategies, as well as help manage the Madison Scholarship Hub. This role requires a strong sense of problem solving and troubleshooting to ensure processes are completed in a timely manner, and is key to identifying paths of communication and creating various media outlets to enhance students’ experience with the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all Madison Scholarship Hub support, including weekly maintenance, scholarship setup, data file adjustments, criteria configuration, security configuration, and cycle management.
  • Manage Financial Aid and Scholarship digital platforms, including the Financial Aid and Scholarship websites.
  • Build and manage a consistent social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
  • Process extraction of data from the PeopleSoft Student Administration system to provide timely, accurate reporting for on- and off-campus constituents.
  • Manage scheduled jobs, jobsets, and queries, ensuring parameters are updated and jobs run successfully.
  • Provide internal diagnostic troubleshooting of PC-related problems in hardware, software, and networking, and triage or coordinate issues with JMU’s HelpDesk.
  • Manage outgoing Financial Aid communications to students and parents, and create and manage training guides and procedural documents.

Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of computers, data analysis, troubleshooting, and website management.

  • Ability to extract, analyze, and interpret data from databases.
  • Application and system support experience.

Pay Range: $46,000 - $49,000. Beginning review date: September 17, 2026.
