Job Description  | The Lead Academic Advisor supports undergraduate students across Falk College’s interdisciplinary programs, including Sport Management, Sport Analytics, Esports, Exercise Science, and Nutrition. This role provides strategic leadership within the advising team, ensuring students receive developmental, proactive, equity-minded guidance that fosters academic progress, interdisciplinary exploration, and timely completion of degrees. The Lead Advisor collaborates with faculty, staff, and campus partners to deliver high impact advising practices, design student-centered workshops, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts across the College.

This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience  | Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree in higher education, counseling, or related field preferred. 5+ years of academic advising experience at the college level, ideally within sport management, sport analytics, or health-related disciplines. Experience designing and delivering workshops for diverse student populations. Familiarity with developmental advising models and proactive, inclusive pedagogy. Experience in fostering collaboration and providing guidance to academic advising teams.
Skills and Knowledge  | Deep understanding of academic advising practices, degree requirements, and university policies. Knowledge of interdisciplinary pathways in Sport Management, Sport Analytics, Esports, Exercise Science, and Nutrition. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations, including first-generation students, international students, student athletes and those exploring major options. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills. Experience with student success platforms and advising software (e.g., Orange SUccess, Degree Works, Data Insights). Capacity to interpret and improve advising procedures independently and collaboratively. Commitment to equity-driven advising and continuous improvement in student support services.
Responsibilities  | Provide individualized and group advising for assigned caseload. Guide students through course selection, registration, academic planning, and progression toward degree completion. Mentor junior advisors, support training efforts, and contribute to team-wide advising strategies. Serve as a resource for complex student cases and policy interpretation. Assist students in understanding program requirements, prerequisites, transfer credit and academic policies across all majors in the college. Develop and facilitate workshops on academic planning, major/minor exploration, interdisciplinary pathways, and student success strategies. Tailor content to developmental levels and program-specific needs. Maintain accurate student records, conduct degree audits, transfer credit review and contribute to assessment of advising outcomes. Use data to inform advising practices and student outreach.
