Advertising/Posting Title | Lead Data Scientist
Posting Summary | This position is responsible for aiding in designing studies, developing analysis pipelines, assisting with writing grant proposals and scientific publications, and assisting and supervising students. The data scientist will contribute to short- and mid-term research planning, manage large interdisciplinary projects, and develop new processes and standards for lab operations and data workflows. Additionally, beekeeping/research experience is strongly preferred both to ensure analysis and modeling efforts make biological sense and so the applicant may assist in field and lab work during experiments. This role requires advanced problem-solving across complex and novel research questions. The applicant should be fluent in Python, R and SQL and comfortable working with large spatiotemporal datasets, mathematical disease modeling, and network science. Additionally, the position involves regular collaboration across academic departments and institutions, and will support experimental design, analysis, and writing for other researchers and graduate students in the lab. They will provide training and guidance in computational methods to other lab members and contribute to the lab’s strategic direction through planning and aiding in grant writing.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience) | Masters degree in computer science, biology, data science or similar and at least 4 years of experience working as a data scientist preferably in a life science or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Fluent in Python, R, and SQL and comfortable working with large datasets, disease data, raster data and time series data. Experience in statistical modeling, mathematical modeling, and machine learning are preferred.
Desirable Qualifications | Doctoral degree. Ideally, the candidate should have experience working with bees either in a research capacity or as a beekeeper (preferably both).
Anticipated Pay Range | $45,000 - $51,000 at a 0.75 FTE
