WHAT WE SEEK

Carnegie Learning’s Quality Engineering (QE) team is seeking a strong, talented Lead Software Engineer in Test to deliver cutting edge applications to our customers.  You have the opportunity to drive our test automation roadmap forward and apply best software practices for various types of testing.  Our goal is to deliver software that will delight our customers.

WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE

  • Provide expert guidance to team members on best practices for testing software, leading by example to ensure high-quality standards
  • Design, develop, and maintain a comprehensive suite of functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end tests within a robust testing framework
  • Continuously evaluate and improve testing strategies to cover all aspects of software functionality
  • Foster a culture of collaboration within the team, promoting shared objectives and integration of testing practices with overall development goals
  • Lead the evolution of formal QA processes, ensuring the adoption of industry-accepted best practices and methodologies
  • Lead end-to-end testing, defining and executing test cases, and managing test data creation
  • Understand quality aspirations in the eyes of the customer and translate the same as deliverables for the team
  • Ensure test infrastructure of automated tests proactively identifies defects, bugs & errors
  • Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines
  • Balance best practice decisions with delivery high business value (right vs right now)
  • Proactively identify and communicate risks to software quality to relevant stakeholders
  • Improve standard operating procedures to ensure consistency in the way we test software
  • Lead agile planning from a QA perspective by establishing tasks/estimates
  • Ask the right questions at the right time to reduce the introduction of quality risk
  • Follow through and communicate design decisions to everyone on the team
  • Work with SRE to ensure QA environments are configured to be production-like
  • Partner with teams across the organization to understand and improve the quality of our product offerings
  • Oversee all aspects of quality assurance including establishing metrics, applying industry best practices, and developing new tools and processes to ensure quality goals are met

WHAT SHOULD BE IN YOUR BACKPACK

  • B.S. in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience) with 7+ years of programming experience in Python, Java, or C#
  • Knowledge of test cases design techniques including boundary, decision tables, and BDD (Behavior Driven Development) / TDD (Test Driven Development)
  • Excellent knowledge of test automation methodologies, best practices (e.g. Page Object Model)
  • Experience with deployment tools, build/release automation and Continuous Delivery
  • Experience driving change and an advocate for quality being a team responsibility
  • Experience with large data set creation, back-end testing (SQL), being able to validate information as it flows throughout the system
  • Exposure to Amazon AWS, and/or other cloud platforms
  • Testing exposure to include api level testing
  • Experience with developing Scalable Test framework which can reused for api testing, integration (webdrive) as well as performance testing
  • Experience with performance testing applications (including load, stress, and soak testing)  
  • Experience with implementing test automation tools and frameworks (e.g. Selenium WebDriver, PyUnit)  
  • Experience creating and executing manual and automated test cases for Web/SaaS applications
  • Experience with troubleshooting installs, server performance and monitoring logs
  • Working collaboratively with team members in a dynamic environment
  • Passion and drive for automation and sound engineering practice
