Job Description
Job Title: Learning and Development Specialist
Department: Human Resources & Training and Development
Reports to: Director, Human Resources, Training & Development
FLSA: Exempt
Hours: Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Onsite and Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (Remote)(extended hours when requested)
Location: Orange Beach, AL/Hybrid

Compensation: The starting compensation for this position starts at $52,000 annually.
Disclosure:  Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and company compensation guidelines.

Job Summary

The Learning and Development Specialist supports the organization’s growth by designing, implementing, and evaluating learning programs that enhance employee performance and career development. This position will work collaboratively with the Training and Development Specialist to ensure that training is effective, engaging, and aligns with the strategic goals of the University.
 
Essential Job Duties
  • Develops and implements learning strategies and programs that support employee growth and organizational objectives.
  • Designs engaging training content, including e-learning modules, workshops, and blended learning solutions.
  • Collaborates with the Training and Development Specialist to deliver programs and ensures consistency across delivery methods.
  • Conducts skills gap analyses to determine current training opportunities, and future learning needs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, assessments, and performance metrics.
  • Assists with New Employee Orientation, and the overall new employee onboarding experience.
  • Develops and introduces innovative approaches to improve learning engagement and retention.
  • Supports compliance training initiatives and ensure required certifications are maintained.
  • Serves as back-up and support for all required annual training for staff and faculty.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
  • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives.
  • Ability to design and implement effective training and development. 
  • Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related program software.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, training and development, or a related field required.
  • Three to five years of experience in learning and development, training delivery, or related field. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position is mostly onsite but may work remotely on Fridays. This position requires working in an office setting with the use of fluorescent lighting, which are present throughout the workspace
 
When working remotely, the employee should have a designated workspace free from distractions, disruptive noise, and reliable and secure internet. 
 
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but requires timely, accurate, and effective accomplishment of tasks through collaboration with other roles within the Training and Development and HR departments.
