Position Summary
The Learning and Development Specialist supports the design, delivery, and coordination of training and development programs across Traylor Construction Group. This role partners with managers, subject matter experts, and the Learning and Development team to identify training needs and deliver effective learning solutions that enhance technical capability, safety, compliance, and leadership development. The Specialist also supports the administration of the Learning Management System (LMS), including course setup, tracking, reporting, and employee support, ensuring accurate training records and timely access to learning resources while maintaining alignment and consistency across all business units.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Training Development & Delivery
- Design, develop, and deliver technical, leadership, and compliance training programs aligned with business and operational needs.
- Conduct training needs assessments and collaborate with managers and subject matter experts to identify workforce skill gaps.
- Facilitate learning through multiple delivery methods, including instructor-led training, subject matter expert-led sessions, blended learning, and e-learning.
- Revise and update training materials as processes, regulations, and operational needs evolve.
Training Coordination & Logistics
- Coordinate and manage training schedules, logistics, and resources.
- Support the administration of the Learning Management System (LMS), including course uploads, assignments, tracking, and reporting.
- Maintain accurate training records and documentation to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with event planning activities such as booking facilities, coordinating materials, and communicating with participants and instructors.
- Support vendor coordination and external training providers as needed.
Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Collect and analyze training feedback, assessments, and participation data to evaluate training effectiveness.
- Partner with the Learning and Development Team to track trends, measure outcomes, and recommend improvements.
- Monitor industry trends and best practices in learning and development, particularly within construction, industrial, and marine environments.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures related to training and development.
General Responsibilities
- Provide first-line support to employees related to training access and participation.
- Collaborate across departments to support company-wide learning initiatives.
- Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division or corporate management.
- Minimal travel may be required for meetings, site visits, and training delivery.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of training design, facilitation, and coordination in technical and operational environments.
- Strong understanding of safety and compliance training requirements within construction, industrial, or marine settings.
- Ability to conduct needs assessments and support the development of effective learning solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively at all organizational levels.
- Strong organizational, project management, and time-management skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management.
- Basic understanding of how to use common AI platforms such as Chat GPT
- Experience using Learning Management Systems preferred.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Engineering, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Education, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in learning and development, training coordination, or technical training delivery.
- Experience supporting construction, industrial, or marine operations preferred.
- Experience developing and delivering training using multiple learning modalities.
Physical Demands
- Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and applicable regulations.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person and via phone or virtual platforms.
- Sedentary work with occasional standing, walking, and routine keyboard operations.
