What is the role?
As a Learning & Development Specialist within our Corporate Learning & Development team, you’ll play an important role in delivering engaging learning experiences that support employee growth and drive business success. You’ll facilitate in-person and virtual training sessions, support onboarding and professional development, and help ensure a positive learning environment for all participants. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys presenting, connecting with others, and helping people learn, even if they’re just starting out in their training career.

What will be expected of me?
 
Training Delivery
  • Facilitate instructor-led training (ILT) and virtual instructor-led training (vILT) sessions across topics such as onboarding, systems, soft skills, and company policies.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and interactive learning environment that encourages participation and engagement.
  • Use provided materials (e.g., slide decks, guides, videos) to deliver training consistently and accurately.
  • Adapt facilitation techniques to suit different learning styles and group dynamics.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Westerra’s bi-weekly New Employee Orientation

Training Support
  • Answer participant questions and provide guidance during and after training sessions.
  • Observe learner understanding and adjust delivery pace or style as needed.
  • Encourage learners to apply what they’ve learned on the job and connect training to real-world tasks.

Training Logistics & Coordination
  • Prepare training rooms, materials, and technology in advance of sessions (in-person and virtual).
  • Track attendance, manage sign-ins, and collect participant feedback.
  • Support scheduling, registration, and post-training follow-ups as needed.

Continuous Improvement
  • Gather and share feedback on training content and delivery with the instructional design team.
  • Identify common learner challenges and suggest ideas to improve training experiences.
  • Participate in facilitator development sessions and peer coaching to strengthen your skills.
 
Training Analysis, Design & Development
  • Collaborate with the Learning Design team as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop end-to-end learning plans, learning curriculum, blended learning programs, digital learning, course content and class materials 
  • Keep facilitator and participant guides current to ensure consistency and enable seamless handoffs to backup facilitators when needed.

Learning Management System (LMS) Administration
  • Enroll participants in assigned learning activities through the LMS and ensure accurate learner records.
  • Monitor and track attendance and course completions; generate reports as needed to support learning operations.
  • Support maintenance of training content within the LMS to ensure accuracy and accessibility for learners.

What am I bringing?
 Experience/Education:
  • 2+ years of experience delivering learning in a professional environment using multi-media methods or 2+ years’ experience serving in a member-facing role within a credit union using Symitar
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite of Products (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient in managing projects and collaboration tools (e.g. Trello)
  • Experience delivering presentations, leading group discussions, or facilitating meetings preferred
  • Exposure to learning management systems (LMS) or virtual training platforms (e.g., Zoom, MS Teams) preferred
  • Knowledge on the four levels of training evaluation (Kirkpatrick model) preferred
 
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and confidently.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and leading discussions (even with limited facilitation experience).
  • Positive, energetic, and approachable demeanor that helps create a supportive learning environment.
  • Active listening and interpersonal skills to connect with learners and respond to their needs.
  • Basic understanding of adult learning principles or a willingness to learn them through on-the-job experience.
  • Ability to use standard office and virtual meeting tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
  • Highly organized with attention to detail in managing schedules, materials, and training logistics.
  • Willingness to receive coaching and feedback to continuously improve facilitation skills.
  • Dependable and professional, with a strong sense of accountability and follow-through.
  • Ability to meet challenges with resourcefulness and innovative ideas
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Can be accountable for the completion of assigned tasks and projects with supervision.

What is the work environment like, and are there physical requirements for this role?
  • Office/Hybrid (work from home) environment – 2 days in office per week
  • Works primarily at desk
  • Occasional travel within the Denver Metro Area may be required, primarily to coordinate and conduct learning efforts at Westerra branches

Salary: In addition to the starting hourly rate of $23.89-$29.86 this role is also eligible for Westerra’s self-funding reward plan. This plan pays out a cash incentive annually if Westerra hits specific criteria tied to financial goals and this role has a direct impact on the outcome of those results!
