POSITION SUMMARY
Ohio Christian University seeks a highly motivated and experienced professional to serve as the Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator and Instructional Designer. This full-time role is responsible for the administration of the university's LMS (Brightspace) and for supporting faculty in the design and delivery of high-quality, engaging online learning experiences. The LMS Administrator and Instructional Designer plays a vital role in ensuring that courses meet Quality Matters standards through the university's Quality Control Rubric (QCR) and in helping faculty develop courses that support student learning and engagement.This position serves as a primary liaison between faculty, IT, and external vendors related to educational technology and LMS functionality. The role is essential in advancing the university's mission of delivering Christ-centered, innovative, and accessible education to diverse learners.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDuties and ResponsibilitiesLMS Administration and Technical Support
Serve as the sole administrator of Brightspace, managing user accounts, course shells, roles/permissions, integrations, term settings, and updates.Oversee daily operations of the LMS, including troubleshooting system issues and coordinating with IT and D2L as needed.Work with IT to manage the connection between the Student Information System (SIS) and LMS to ensure timely course creation and user enrollment.Evaluate, test, and implement third-party instructional tools within the LMS (e.g., publisher content, Turnitin).Maintain documentation and SOPs for LMS processes; ensure continuity through cross-training support staff or backups.Support compliance with FERPA and data privacy requirements.
Instructional Design and Course Quality
Provide pedagogical and design consultation to faculty and subject matter experts (SMEs) to create high-quality online courses.Apply evidence-based instructional design strategies aligned with adult learning principles and course outcomes.Review and ensure that all new courses meet Quality Matters standards through the OCU Quality Control Rubric (QCR).Assist faculty in converting face-to-face courses to online modalities.Supervise additional instructional designer(s) and LMS editor(s), as assigned.
Faculty Training and Professional Development
Develop and lead workshops and one-on-one training sessions on instructional technology, course design, and Brightspace use.Create and maintain online resource materials and guides for faculty.Coordinate new faculty LMS orientation and onboarding related to course delivery technologies.
Collaboration and Communication
Serve as a bridge between academic offices, faculty, IT, and vendors in support of teaching and learning technologies.Participate on university committees and working groups related to curriculum and educational technology.Stay current with emerging trends in instructional design, AI, LMS systems, and adult learning theory.
WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Senior Executive Officer and Dean of the School of Adult and Graduate Studies
Supervises: Instructional designer(s), LMS Editor(s)
Internal OCU Relationships: Administrators, Provost's office, faculty, staff, IT
External Relationships: D2L Brigthspace, Slingshot, various textbook publishers as it pertains to online content (ex. McGraw Hill), Turnitin
QUALIFICATIONS

Required
Bachelor's degree in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or related field.2-3 years of experience in LMS administration (strong preference for Brightspace)2-3 years of experience in instructional design or online teachingStrong background in curriculum design, learning theory (especially adult learning), and best practices in online education.Technical proficiency in LMS administration, including troubleshooting and integration of third-party tools.Excellent communication and customer service skills.
PreferredMaster's degree in instructional design, educational technology, curriculum development, or related field.Experience applying Quality Matters or similar course quality standards.Teaching experience in higher education, especially with adult or non-traditional learners.Experience supervising staff or managing instructional projects.
