SUMMARY
The Editor has extensive knowledge of literature and uses that knowledge to help develop
competitive offerings. The Editor is knowledgeable about all of the “details” in the plan for the
assigned project, including specs, writing guidelines, and the plan details for RFPs (if appropriate).
The Editor relies on guidance from his/her direct supervisor to ensure that the evolving product
meets the objectives of the plan, its budget, and its schedule. Manages in-house and freelance staff on a limited basis to complete assigned projects.
This is a 12-month Term of Project position.

SCOPE AND IMPACT OF JOB 
  • With supervision, write and edit manuscripts.
  • Participate in development of TOCs.
  • Contribute to scope and sequence plans; create and maintain glossaries and standards correlations.
  • Monitor appropriateness of text material as to reading level, content accuracy and currency, freedom of bias, and teachability.
  • Write and provide art specs for artists and photo-researchers. Participate in evaluation of sketches and choice of photos.
  • Working with Product Management and Marketing, analyze competition and market trends and incorporate findings into program.
  • Oversee work of freelancers and outside developers.
  • Ensure compliance with state standards and assessments.
  • Participate, as appropriate, in market research efforts (e.g. prepare sample lessons, conduct phone interviews, attend focus groups, etc.)
  • Participate in planning assigned projects; make creative suggestions that reflect an understanding of the marketplace and an awareness of customer needs.
  • Ensure that product responds to customer needs.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in curriculum development or the development of instructional materials for literacy.
  • Teaching experience a plus.
  • Must be knowledgeable in educational methodologies and instructional design.
  • A BA in Literature, with excellent grasp of concepts.
  • Expertise in subgenres of literature a plus: for example British or American literature; Gothic literature; YA titles and authors.

  • Proficient user of computers and software programs including Adobe, MS Word, Excel, andPower Point.
  • Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understands the production process for print and digital instructional materials.
  • Demonstrates ability to write original content, and to edit and rewrite content generated by others, to meet standards of accuracy, style, grade level, and market need.
  • Able to create and deliver content in a format suitable for digital products.
  • Promotes a sense of teamwork and works to reduce team barriers and conflicts.
  • Able to respond quickly in an environment of changing priorities. Must be able to set relevant priorities on a daily basis and meet deadlines.
