The Office of Admissions is seeking a personable, energetic, and poised Assistant Director of Transfer Recruitment. Under the guidance of the Senior Associate Director of Recruitment, this person will play a vital role within the team, focusing on critical aspects of the transfer student recruitment process. This position will assist with the development, implementation, and assessment of a strategic plan for the Office of Admissions. This position will ensure the continuity and quality of all transfer recruitment efforts aimed at attracting and enrolling new transfer students to the University of Utah. Integral to this role is ensuring superior levels of customer service, and fostering seamless interactions between prospective transfer students, university departments, and various stakeholders. The Assistant Director oversees the supervision and guidance of transfer admissions counselors, ensuring the planning and implementation of transfer student recruitment activities.


Responsibilities  | This job description is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and qualifications required of employees assigned to the job. Assist in setting recruitment short and long-term goals. Establish internal objectives and implement procedures to meet goals. Assist with the development, implementation, reporting and assessment of a strategic transfer student recruitment plan. Assess the impact and success of transfer student recruitment strategies and tactics through collecting and analyzing various types of data to recommend and implement improvements and changes to existing efforts. Responsible for the training/development, supervision, support, evaluation, and retention of full-time, professional staff members. Work closely with the other recruitment managers to support an office culture of accountability, team-work, and consistency. Assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Welcome Center. Manage transfer student recruitment requests, event registrations and staff coverage. Oversee the transfer recruitment event tracking system to assess visits, and generate regular reports to share with admissions staff. Support the recruitment and admission of transfer students from institutions within an assigned territory, as needed. Build personalized relationships with prospective students, families, school counselors, and other constituents in support of the recruitment goals for the territory. Read and evaluate application files in an assigned territory, and oversee and manage the reading volume and deadlines for direct reports. Oversee the travel planning and approval process for direct reports, and having an in- depth knowledge of the university’s travel policies, procedures and Concur travel system. Significant domestic travel, including some overnights and weekends, is required. Perform other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.
Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Preferences  | Four or more years of full-time experience in new student recruitment and/or admissions. Demonstrated experience in developing, executing, and assessing recruitment strategies and tactics, as well as meeting enrollment goals. Understanding the unique challenges and opportunities for recruiting prospective transfer students and other key influencers in the college decision-making process. Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills. Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and find solutions to possible issues. Ability to communicate complex information to individuals and groups from all backgrounds. Demonstrated experience with supervising staff. Capable of working independently and as part of a team. Possess a valid driver’s license at the time of employment. Master’s degree, with preference given to degrees in higher education, public or business administration.
