Manager, Learning and Research for a 125+ employee (and growing) remote education non-profit providing professional learning to K-12 educators nationally

Report to: Director, Learning & Research or Senior Director, Learning & Research
Supervises: Dependent on the project, the Manager, Learning & Research may be a Project Leader with project team supervision and leadership development responsibilities

Compensation: The full salary range for this position is $80,000 - $121,007 annually. This range represents the full earning potential for the role, including opportunities for salary growth over time based on performance, tenure, and organizational budget. The anticipated hiring range for this position is $80,000 - $105,529. Teaching Lab will generally cap salaries for new employees at 105% of the midpoint of the full salary range ($105,529) to allow for continued growth in the role over time. There are two types of experience being considered for this role: Experience that is directly relevant to the role and Total Working Experience, in all fields. This includes: internships, part-time work, and consulting work. In collaboration with the hiring manager, the People and Culture team calculates experience based on the candidate’s most current resume. When calculating the offer, consideration is given to candidates who possess additional qualifications (i.e., desired qualifications).

SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Manager, Learning & Research collaborates with others within the Learning & Research department and with Program project teams to implement Teaching Lab’s strategy to evaluate and share the impact of our professional learning on teachers and students. The Manager takes ownership of the department and the organization’s systems and processes and implements them consistently and successfully. The Manager typically supports the development, iteration, and execution of program evaluation and may also support research initiatives as needed. This role is critical in strengthening Teaching Lab’s research design capacity and learning organization culture.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary responsibilities for the Manager, Learning & Research include:
  • Implement program evaluation 
  • Implement Teaching Lab’s overall program evaluation strategy 
  • Act as a liaison to assigned partner projects to:
  • Develop, iterate, and execute program evaluation designs under the direction of Learning & Research department leadership
  • Advise Project Leads and Client Partnership Managers on the details and timeline of data collection
  • Support the analysis of data collected from partners
  • Interpret and translate data findings to the internal project teams
  • Support the dissemination of results by creating communications and coaching internal teams on how to interpret and discuss findings with partners
  • Develop, reiterate, user-test, and finalize data collection tools, such as surveys, focus groups and interview guides, and other rubrics
  • Provide secondary/additional data analysis support to the Learning & Research Data Analysts and the Director, Research & Program Evaluation, including: 1) development of “business rules” for data analysis, such as criteria for n size, protocols for missing data, etc, 2) analysis of quantitative and qualitative dataInterpretation of results for meaning and action, 3) create visual reports or presentations for internal and external audiences
  • Support, and eventually lead, the reporting of results and findings to a variety of audiences, including funders 
  • Support in the management of the data repository, including organizing, cleaning, and maintaining data sources and codebooks, as well as reviewing internal data dashboards for accuracy
  • Develop and manage the structure for research and data sharing with external partners, such as school districts and external researchers, including reviewing data sharing agreements, managing external research review processes (such as district Institutional Review Boards), and acting as a liaison between Teaching Lab and school systems to obtain data from partners for the purpose of impact evaluation
  • In collaboration with other members of the Learning & Research department, create and implement opportunities to build knowledge of internal data collection and data literacy for all team members throughout their employee cycle, including new employee onboarding 

  • Support research initiatives
  • Support the Learning & Research Team’s external research collaborations by communicating with stakeholders, facilitating coordination between internal and external parties, assisting in data collection design, preparing and sharing data, and contributing to or reviewing final reports.
  • Collaborate and manage short cycles of formative research for programmatic innovations (e.g., A/B testing), including data analysis and dissemination of results

  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Growth & Marketing department on the application process for research grants or for proposals that require a complex program evaluation component outside of the typical evaluation plan
  • Collaborate with others in the Shared Operations and Program divisions to generate, refine, and develop strategies, systems, and tools to meet both organizational and Learning & Research goals
  • Respond to evaluation tools or processes, dashboards, or data system-related issues in a timely manner
  • Engage in additional work as needed to meet organizational business needs and priorities
  • Engage in internal project flex teams to support non-client-facing, but critical programmatic projects

  • Stay abreast of key research and guidance in the field, attend learning experiences to build skills and competencies in program evaluation, data analysis, data management, or data visualization

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education, Work Experience, and Knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree 
  • Five (5) or more years combined experience in the following functions: developing or refining program evaluation tools and/or instruments, collecting and managing data, including in online surveys in third-party platforms
  • Five (5) or more years of combined experience in the following functions: data analysis, data management, program evaluation, and data-informed program design
  • Deep knowledge and experience in interpreting and communicating program evaluation findings, and making data-driven decisions 
  • Experience managing relationships with clients and stakeholders in an education context
  • Experience using Excel, R, Python, or a related programming language to perform statistical analyses
  • Experience using survey platforms such as Qualtrics to design, distribute, and analyze surveys
  • Experience creating data visualizations and reports
