About the Role
Ascend Public Charter Schools seeks a Manager of Curriculum Design & Management (K–8 STEM) to support the development, refinement, and management of Mathematics and Science curriculum systems across Kindergarten through Grade 8.
This role ensures that curriculum materials reflect cumulative progression from foundational numeracy and scientific reasoning in elementary school through Algebra readiness and middle school conceptual rigor.
The Manager is responsible for producing high-quality curriculum artifacts, maintaining disciplined documentation systems, and supporting structured revision cycles across grade levels.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Architecture & Development
- Draft and refine K–8 Mathematics and Science units, lesson plans, problem sets, and assessments.
- Ensure progression in conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, modeling, and scientific inquiry from K through Grade 8.
- Maintain alignment to NYS standards and Algebra readiness benchmarks.
- Develop teacher-facing materials that clarify instructional priorities and pacing.
Assessment & Standards Coherence
- Maintain pacing guides, assessment calendars, and curriculum documentation across K–8.
- Manage version control and artifact libraries to ensure consistency across schools.
- Participate in structured revision cycles to strengthen sequencing and rigor.
- Conduct quality checks to ensure materials are classroom-ready.
Implementation Readiness & Quality Assurance
- Develop common K–8 STEM assessments aligned to curriculum benchmarks.
- Create solution guides and scoring tools aligned to conceptual mastery.
- Ensure assessments measure reasoning and application, not just procedural accuracy.
- Incorporate student performance data into curriculum refinements.
Continuous Improvement & Data-Driven Revision
- Support alignment reviews to ensure K–4 numeracy builds directly into Grades 5–8 Algebra readiness.
- Contribute to vertical planning sessions to prevent conceptual gaps.
- Partner with Training and Development leaders to clarify instructional intent and expectations.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- 2+ years of experience in K–12 education.
- Demonstrated success in math and/or science instruction.
- Experience drafting standards-aligned curriculum materials.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Compensation
The salary will start at $70,000 annually, commensurate with the level of experience.
Location & Work Arrangement
- Based in our Brooklyn, NY office
- Hybrid work schedule requiring in-office presence at least three days per week
In-person work expectations include network office time, stakeholder meetings, school visits, special events, and other role-specific responsibilities as determined by management.
