Job Summary  | The Natural History Museum of Utah is a premier cultural institution in Salt Lake City, open 363 days a year, serving local and tourist visitors. The Museum Store offers a diverse collection of handmade jewelry, exceptional gifts, and books. We are an integral part of the visitors experience to the Museum and a key department within the Museum’s operations. There is a primary store, year round, and a secondary special exhibit store with unique merchandise to support various traveling exhibits. The Museum Store Assistant Manager will report to the Museum Store Manager and support all aspects of museum store operations and customer experience.
Responsibilities  | Assistant Store Manager Responsibilities include, but not limited to: SALES:
-Helps achieve forecasted sales goals
-Communicates sales goals to staff
-Stays up to date on current Sales reports and trends PERSONNEL:
-Along with Store Manager, responsible for hiring, training, and mentoring a diverse, knowledgeable, and motivated sales team
-Supervises staff’s daily tasks while promoting a positive work environment -Creates and distributes weekly schedules ensuring payroll hours are within budget CUSTOMER SERVICE:
-Be the primary example to all staff of the NHMU Customer Service Credo by being present, focused, greet every guest, knowledgeable and prepared to resolve customer concerns.
-Coach staff to do the same -Strive to exceed both external and internal customer expectations OPERATIONS:
-Ensures compliance to all operational procedures and guidelines, including but not limited to: cash handling and register procedures, store opening and closing, inventory management, merchandising, and special sales and discount programs.
-Maintain physical appearance of sales floor and organization of stock room
-Ensures accurate and timely flow of merchandise from receiving to sales floor
-Competent with the Museum Stores POS System in all administrative, reporting, and customer facing capabilities. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to five years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
