Job Description
Here’s what you need to know:
The Camden Managing Director of School Operations (MDSO) is directly responsible for ensuring excellent school operations in the region. The MDSO coaches and supports the Directors of Schools Operations (DSOs) with each school leader, develops school operations talent and support, builds effective operational systems, and integrates these systems in partnership with Ops leaders across regions.  The MDSO leads the team of DSOs, allowing school leaders to focus on driving results and for teachers and students to do their best work. The MDSO provides ongoing coaching and support to DSOs to ensure that best practices are shared throughout the regions.  The MDSO reports to the region's Managing Director of Operations (MDO).  The MDSO may support DSOs in other regions as smaller regions scale.

Director of School Operations Coaching and Support
  • Supports, coaches and is jointly accountable with the School Leader for the success of the DSOs
  • Sets network school operations goals for DSOs and supports School Leaders in setting school-specific goals for each DSO
  • Conducts weekly/bi-weekly one-on-ones with all DSOs
  • Conducts weekly/bi-weekly observations of each school, focused on operational systems and processes and meetings
  • Works with other MDSOs to provide professional development and coaching to DSOs
  • Collaborates with SL to ensure the development of the operations team members are able to meet the needs of the school and organization 
  • Holds all school operations teams accountable to operational outcomes and goals and problem solves and supports implementation of strategies to achieve them
  • Connect regularly with HOS (of MDoS) to ensure alignment across school needs and outcomes
School Operations Pipeline
  • Along with the recruitment team, develops and cultivates a DSO recruitment strategy to attract operational leaders at each school
  • Develops succession plans with all school operations leads to ensure continuity year to year and to ensure healthy retention of excellent school operations team members
  • Designs professional development pathways for all school ops roles in order to ensure that high performing operations teams exist in all schools
  • In concert with the Director of Leadership Development, leads the design and implementation of the DSO Fellowship program as well as other DSO training
  • Manages and leads onboarding of new DSOs into their role and coordinate all necessary training, observation opportunities sand support
  • Steps in and serves in a school operations capacity if coverage is necessary
School Operations Resources to Enable Growth
  • Sets standards for all operational functions in schools; formalizes key operational systems and structures to ensure that a replicable and measurable standard of excellence is in place across all schools
  • Works with other MDSOs to create and revise regional and school “playbooks” that include milestones, best practices, and example resources for excellent school operations
  • Supports the work of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and MDO in identifying and developing network-wide system improvements to support the CMO’s and regional  growth
  • Creates scalable growth plans to ensure that all new KIPP Miami schools meet a standard of excellence from inception
Strategic Operations (Network Operations)
  • Supports CMO and regional departments in defining and implementing regional level work streams in the areas of technology, facilities, nutrition, compliance, recruitment and enrollment.
  • Develops network-wide efficiencies to better support school operations leads
  • Facilitates communication and builds structures to ensure both DSOs and CMO/regional department leads can do their best work

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Experience in a school-based operations leadership role
  • 5 to 10 years of work experience, preferably in business or operations management
  • K-12 Education experience preferred
  • Direct management experience required

Additional Information
KIPP Team & Family offers a market-competitive salary ranging from $157,000-$204,849 based on experience. Salary ranges at KIPP are set based upon the role level and function using benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector and allow for growth within the role.  Individual compensation within this range will be set  based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to: relevant professional experience and qualifications; education, skills and training; and market conditions.
