Managing Editor - Internal Communications Full Description

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Internal Communications, the managing editor will oversee daily operation of the Purdue Today e-newsletter, including editing/writing and overseeing the editing/writing of written materials.  This person will coordinate and schedule editorial copy and, in consultation with the director, determine use of content for other constituent communication vehicles.  The managing editor will ensure accuracy, adherence to style guidelines and attention to university concerns and strategy.

The managing editor will assist the director in collaborating with and serving as liaison to all administrative areas of the university and other content providers to ensure adequate coverage of information intended for specific internal and targeted audiences and constituent groups.

The managing editor also will assist as needed with the Purdue News Weekly e-newsletter and Purdue Today X account and serve on the crisis management team.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily operation of the Purdue Today e-newsletter.  Coordinate the editorial calendar, brainstorm content ideas and determine possible use of content for other constituent communication vehicles.  Write and edit stories, and oversee the editing/writing of written materials by the Purdue Today team.  Ensure accuracy, adherence to style guidelines and attention to university concerns and strategy.
  • Assist in collaborating with and serving as liaison to all administrative areas of the university and other content providers to ensure adequate coverage of information intended for specific internal and targeted audiences and constituent groups.
  • Assist with Purdue News Weekly e-newsletter and Purdue Today X account and serve on the crisis management team.

What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Writing or a related field
  • Five or more years of experience in writing or communications
  • Proven leadership and management experience
  • Superior communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), organizational skills, planning and creative thinking
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work to meet deadlines, and produce high-quality work with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated good judgment, diplomacy, persuasive ability, public relations, and the ability to drive positive results within and across organizational boundaries
  • Ability to work productively under the pressure of tight deadlines
  • Personal computer and related software skills
