Job Description:
The School of Politics and Global Studies (SPGS) at the Tempe campus seeks a Marketing and Communications Specialist to support marketing campaigns and college-wide communications initiatives. Under the supervision of the School Director, the successful candidate will be a reliable self-starter who is able to prioritize and independently manage their workload to meet set deadlines. A strong writer and storyteller, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will seek out and develop newsworthy stories, coordinate social media content, create email content, and ensure that content is leveraged across multiple channels and in both digital and print formats. The duties include but are not limited to executing communications strategies, researching and writing content, supervising student employees, and other functions designated by the school.
Essential Duties:
Lead communications and marketing strategy to increase awareness of the school.
Collaborate with leadership and staff to plan and deliver communications initiatives, including messaging, campaign development, and multi-channel content creation, that support outreach, engagement, and application interest and completion.
Ensure all communications align with and advance the ASU Charter and SPGS's vision, mission, and values, bringing creativity, adaptability, and an innovative mindset to evolving communications needs.
Ensure all communications align with ASU and SPGS brand standards, voice, and accessibility best practices.
Use tools such as AI, Airtable, Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and related platforms to plan and create campaigns, manage workflows and timelines, track outreach efforts, and analyze performance metrics to inform strategy and improve engagement.
Implement creative, student-centered outreach strategies across social media, email marketing, newsletters, web content, and paid digital channels.
Research and write content including emails, newsletters, news stories, social media posts, announcements, and program updates.
Assist with video production efforts as needed, including supporting interviews, capturing short-form video, coordinating shoots, and preparing video content for social media and digital campaigns.
Maintain and update school website pages with timely program, event, and news content.
Support communications infrastructure including Salesforce Marketing Cloud, distribution lists, and ASU iSearch directory.
Supervise and mentor student employees supporting communications and marketing efforts.
Work with campus partners, stakeholders, and external vendors to support campaign development and execution.
Assist with communications and logistics for major school events, including the unit's Scholarship Ceremony, alumni programs, and other high-profile initiatives.
Help prepare materials such as programs, signage, presentations, certificates, and post-event coverage.
Provide support for special projects, occasional weekend or evening events, and other tasks as assigned.
Desired Qualifications:

Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
Experience planning, developing and producing creative, high-quality communications content for multiple audiences and channels.
Experience translating complicated or technical subjects into common language.
Experience interviewing subject matter experts.
Experience reviewing and editing the written work of others.
Skilled in multimedia storytelling, such as the ability to take quality photos and produce videos.
Experience with social media platforms for journalistic or marketing uses.
Experience in planning and maintaining a regular editorial schedule and pitching stories to editors or supervisors.
Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni and development teams and community partners.
Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills. Experience writing feature stories for general audiences.
Demonstrated skill in project management, strategic communication planning, and media placement.
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
Stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
Communicate verbally and in writing to perform essential functions.
Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
Reports directly to chair or director.
Supervises professional and administrative staff and regularly provides review of their performance and achievements.
Receives regular review of performance for achievement of established objectives.
An 8AM-5PM, Monday-Friday work schedule. Some remote work may be available after probationary period.

The School of Politics and Global Studies (SPGS) is an academic unit in the Social Sciences in ASU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. With 29 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 19 professors of practice, 9 teaching faculty, as well as 17 staff members, SPGS offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral programs in Political Science; bachelor's degrees in Global Studies, International Relations, and in Politics and the Economy; and master's degrees in Global Security, Political Psychology, and International Affairs and Leadership.
