Job Summary  | The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department in the John and Marcia Price College of Engineering is seeking an experienced and talented individual to join our team as a Marketing and Communications Specialist. This position is responsible for designing, coordinating, and executing a wide range of marketing/communications projects for the department to increase visibility among key audiences and ensure effective internal and external communications. Performs a variety of writing, design, and project management tasks while using good judgment and strong interpersonal skills to plan and execute marketing/communications strategies. Utilizes traditional and electronic publishing technologies to produce communications that implement project objectives. The preferred applicant will have excellent written and verbal communication abilities, be self-motivated, professional, and have a service-minded mentality to help bring ECE’s vision and mission forward. Responsibilities  | 1. Develops and executes marketing/communication plans by utilizing traditional and electronic publishing technologies; projects may include but are not limited to public relations/news writing, special events management, advertising, and social media management.

2. Develops and communicates department information on various projects to its stakeholders, both internal and external. Organizes and assists with set up for recurring and annual department events such as Monthly Social Hour and Annual Thanksgiving Dinner.

3. Responsible for monitoring effectiveness of marketing/communication tactics and adjusting communication plans as necessary.

4. Collaborates with the Department and other clientele to conceptualize on various projects.

5. Proofreads all communications and monitors media.

6. Coordinates promotions including selection and ordering of promotional items such as shirts, pens, etc., and overseeing the design, printing, mailing, and delivery of promotional materials.

7. Manages a student videographer and oversees coordination, planning, and execution of all video projects.

8. Organizes and leads monthly marketing office meeting.

9. Manages the research and development of content for publication. Manages department website and executes most changes and updates to website using WordPress.

10. Manages changes and updates to online department calendar as well as managing department social media channels and YouTube page.

11. Coordinates and executes marketing communication projects for the ECE Program at the Utah Asia Campus.

12. Develops and adheres to project timelines.

13. Ensures that distributed material is accurate and timely. Assists in creating printed marketing materials for various events or courses upon request.

14. May perform other related technical duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications  | Bachelor’s degree English, Journalism, Communications, or related field plus 3 years of related experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software; project management and strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.

Some areas may require additional experience with specific computer systems and may require skills in interviewing, ad copy writing, editing, photography, web writing, graphic design, audio & video production, and oral presentation.

Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Preferences  | Experience in news style writing, social media marketing strategy, WordPress, and basic graphic design preferred. A writing sample must be uploaded with the application.
