Position Summary
The MSU Messaging and Collaboration team is seeking a Collaboration Technologies Specialist to design, operate, and support enterprise‑scale communication and collaboration services serving more than 100,000 MSU customers. The team delivers secure, reliable, and highly available collaboration platforms that support the University’s teaching, research, and outreach missions. Reporting to the Messaging and Collaboration Sr. Manager, this position will be responsible for:
  • Providing advanced technical support for Microsoft‑based collaboration services by analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex issues and ensuring timely, high‑quality request fulfillment. The position triages and routes time‑sensitive collaboration incidents, defines problem scope, sets customer expectations, and implements effective solutions, escalating as appropriate. The role partners closely with distributed IT teams to maintain system reliability and optimize service delivery across the university environment.
  • The specialist supports and troubleshoots Microsoft 365 collaboration technologies including Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, shared mailboxes, and distribution groups. The role applies strong analytical and creative problem‑solving skills to address complex technical and user‑experience challenges, while communicating clearly and professionally with customers and IT partners. Responsibilities also include documenting work and contributing to service documentation, training materials, and knowledgebase content that support continuous service improvement.

This position will be hybrid, with an onsite expectation of 2 days per week. The ideal candidate will excel in a virtual environment where collaboration, mentorship, and team cohesion occur through tools like Microsoft Teams, while also thriving in a self‑directed, independent work environment.

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • 3 years of hands-on experience working with Microsoft PowerShell, the Office 365 Admin Center, Microsoft Active Directory and/or Microsoft Azure Active Directory.
  • 3 years of experience providing IT support to a large IT environment with some of that support being collaboration technologies like Microsoft 365, Teams, and/or SharePoint.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or other certifications that enhance a role as a systems administrator.
  • Experience focusing on large or complex Enterprise class infrastructures requiring creative and complex solutions. 
  • Experience providing IT solutions within a large academic environment.
  • Interest and curiosity to learn new technologies.
