Multimedia Specialist - Part‑Time
The Office of Online Education Marketing and Strategy is seeking a part‑time (up to 24 hours per week) visual storyteller skilled in digital media creation, motion‑based content production, and graphic design to support Penn State Online Education's brand and marketing efforts.
While the role offers remote or hybrid flexibility, candidates should live within reasonable proximity to University Park to frequently participate in on‑site shoots, events, and other in‑person production needs.
About the Role
This part‑time position supports the visual storytelling needs of Penn State Online Education and Penn State World Campus through the creation, capture, and production of digital media and multimedia design assets. Working within the Visual Communications and Engagement team, you'll collaborate with designers, strategists, and marketing partners to produce compelling visual content for campaigns, events, and ongoing brand initiatives. Your work will help shape how audiences experience and understand the Penn State Online Education and Penn State World Campus brands.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture and create digital media content for online programs, events, and brand storytelling.
- Demonstrate strong skills in photo capture and motion‑based digital media creation.
- Apply knowledge of composition, lighting, audio, and other media production techniques.
- Conduct interviews and capture supporting motion‑based content for small‑scale media projects.
- Edit motion‑based content for use on websites, social platforms, and internal communications.
- Edit photos for marketing use, ensuring consistency, quality, and brand alignment.
- Plan and prepare for projects, including storyboarding, scheduling interviews, and coordinating logistics.
- Arrive fully prepared for photo and media events to ensure a smooth and efficient start to each project.
- Create and refine graphic design assets during peak marketing periods.
- Ensure all visual materials meet brand standards and accessibility expectations.
- Serve as the digital asset librarian by organizing, tagging, and maintaining the photo and media library.
- Manage and archive model release forms to ensure compliance with all captured content.
- Collaborate closely with creative and strategic partners to elevate the visual identity of Penn State Online Education and Penn State World Campus.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in digital media creation with a solid understanding of graphic design principles.
- A digital portfolio demonstrating strong visual storytelling and clarity about your role in each project.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
- Understanding of accessibility principles for visual and multimedia content (captioning, descriptions, contrast, etc.).
- Ability to manage projects from concept through execution within a part‑time schedule.
- Experience with basic motion graphics for digital campaigns.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfort working both independently and collaboratively.
- Bachelor's degree in digital or interactive media, visual communications, or equivalent experience.
- Clear, efficient communication with team members and partners.
Bonus Skills
- Experience coordinating or providing direction for external photography shoots.
- Passion for education and mission‑driven storytelling.
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Adobe Workfront.
- Experience with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems.
- A strategic eye for brand consistency and audience engagement.
- Basic knowledge of HTML.
