About the Job:

The National Sales Trainer, Product & Capability Training, is responsible for designing, leading, and continuously improving commercial training programs that build product knowledge, commercial capabilities, and launch readiness across US Commercial field teams. This role translates business priorities, portfolio strategy, approved messaging, and field capability needs into scalable learning experiences that support ongoing development, product launches, and performance reinforcement. The National Sales Trainer serves as a commercial training expert and cross-functional partner to Commercial Leadership, Sales Leadership, Marketing, Medical, Legal/Compliance, and Field Enablement, ensuring training is relevant, compliant, measurable, and grounded in adult learning best practices.

In this Associate Director-level role, you will shape high-impact commercial training strategies that prepare field-facing teams to confidently discuss complex diagnostics, execute product launches, and apply key commercial capabilities. You will partner across functions to create engaging learning experiences, reinforce behavior change, and measure training effectiveness while keeping sales experience as a valued foundation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and sustain collaborative relationships with key business stakeholders, serving as a thought partner to the business. 
  • Cultivate deep business knowledge and partnerships to inform the development of the learning strategy in support of near and long team needs of the business. 
  • In partnership with the Director Product & Capability Training, conduct all field training needs including all new hire field training, ongoing and advanced training, product launches, national, divisional, and regional meetings, distance learning programs, instructor-led programs, and other identified training opportunities and methodologies. 
  • Proactively uncover and assess gaps in the knowledge of the Commercial organization, and work with the training team and other departments to address them. 
  • Partner with subject matter experts and resources, both internally and externally, to implement and deploy learning solutions. 
  • Implement and continuously optimize the new-hire sales training for newly hired field team members. 
  • Travel domestically at least 30% of the time. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 7 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with 4 years experience; or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in commercial training, sales enablement, learning & development, pharmaceutical/biotech/diagnostics, or related commercial roles. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • History of proven results and successful sales performance, including achievement of sales plan 
  • 2+ years of experience in Commercial training
  • Experience developing training content and evaluating sales training curriculum to ensure a knowledgeable and prepared salesforce 
  • Demonstrated experience identifying internal customer needs and making appropriate recommendations for most effective learning and development solutions 
  • Experience in CRM (preferably Salesforce.com) 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various sales models (i.e. SPIN, Consultative Selling, etc.) 
  • Proven ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams 
  • Working knowledge of technology platforms that support learning and development initiatives 
  • Strong understanding of molecular diagnostics for oncology & other disease states 
  • Ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment 
  • Ability to work independently, communicate proactively, manage multiple projects and prioritize daily tasks while managing critical deadlines 
  • Strong project management skills

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Remote is $146,080 - $182,600 per year. The salary range is commensurate with Foundation Medicines compensation practice and considers factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, external market conditions, criticality of role, and internal equity. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for Foundation Medicine's benefits.
