Position Overview
The Online Learning Specialist designs, implements, and manages online learning experiences that build skills, support development, and deliver just‑in‑time resources. Working within OD&L and reporting to the Manager of Online Learning, this role aligns learning to career pathways and performance goals, fosters peer connections, and drives broad adoption of online learning across Boston University. Using the Learning Management System (LMS), AI tools, and other digital platforms, the specialist develops learning paths and solutions that enable learning in the flow of work and improve operational effectiveness.

As the primary business owner for the LMS, the Online Learning Specialist is responsible for front-end administration and the overall learner experience—uploading and publishing courses, curating content, configuring learning journeys and credentials, and maintaining user documentation. The role identifies and implements effective online learning strategies, recommends technologies to expand access and engagement, and partners with stakeholders to diagnose learning needs and deliver scalable, data-informed solutions that optimize systems and outcomes. By ensuring the online learning ecosystem is user-centered, accessible, and scalable, the Specialist makes learning available where and when employees need it, and helps drive measurable improvements in performance, career development, and institutional impact.

  • B.A./B. S Degree

Qualifications
  • Min. 2-3 years of experience in administering an LMS and managing online learning programs (Cornerstone preferred)
  • Experience with using MS Tools, Word, Excel, PPT, Teams, SharePoint
  • Experience with working in a large complex organization with multiple stakeholders
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in an institution of higher education is preferred, not required.
  • Familiarity with eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline 360.
