Job Summary
Who We Are

The Center for Medical Innovation (CMI) is the University of Utah’s medical device incubator and venture studio. We help innovators, entrepreneurs, and startups take bold ideas and turn them into real, market-ready medical technologies to launch into the market. From hands-on programs to in-house prototyping and regulatory support, we’re built to move fast and solve real problems in healthcare.

We have opened the James LeVoy Sorenson Center for Medical Innovation (SCMI) — a next-gen facility that supercharges our ability to build, test, and launch even more breakthrough devices.

- Develop and manage confidential disclosure agreements (CDA) and Statements of Work (SOW) in collaboration with the Technology Licensing Office.

- Plan and execute clinical observations for industry partners throughout the U Health hospital system.

- Serve as the on-site liaison and coordinator for CLIP observation events.

- Orient visiting industry participants to the hospital setting, clinical workflows, and expectations.

- Assist in the sales and recruitment for industry partner CLIP observation events.

- Provide engineering support to the Bench to Bedside (B2B) program and manage the SCMI clean room (~30% of role):

- Support B2B student teams (Utah’s premier student healthcare innovation competition) by providing access to prototyping equipment and facilities, delivering training on equipment, and fulfilling 3D printing requests for proof-of-concept projects.

- Manage the SCMI ISO-8 compliant clean room, including daily operations, maintenance, user training, access scheduling, and ensuring compliance with cleanliness and safety standards.

Cross-cutting responsibilities:

- Assist in the development of department goals/objectives, including utilization, capabilities, and budgets for the CLIP program and SCMI prototyping/cleanroom resources.

- Ensure understanding of clinical workflows to minimize disruption for clinical observations and hospital operations.

- This position does not provide patient care.
