Schedule:
Day. Tuesdays and Thursdays - 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Part-time position, teaching two afternoons per week.
  • Attendance at weekly staff meetings not required.
  • Attendance at opening and year-end meetings is required.
  • Funding for webinars and other professional development will be provided, contingent on budget allowances.

Role Description:
This role is open to current or incoming graduate or undergraduate students. The College School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated part-time Physical Education Teacher to join our team. This role involves delivering a physical education curriculum tailored to the needs of bright students who learn differently, in grades 1-8. The ideal candidate will have a passion for fostering physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship while ensuring an inclusive and supportive environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a specialized physical education curriculum suitable for diverse learners, integrating adaptive techniques and modifications as needed.
  • Conduct physical education classes two or three days per week, focusing on developing motor skills, physical fitness, and cooperative play.
  • Oversee and coordinate ancillary programs such as the annual American Heart Association fundraiser, emphasizing heart health education.
  • Collaborate closely with homeroom teachers and the school director to address individual students' needs and incorporate physical education goals into their overall educational plans.
  • Supervise and facilitate organized recess activities, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for all students.
  • Uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethics, and fair play, guiding students in the development of positive attitudes towards physical activity and competition.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all student interactions and communications.
  • Provide input and feedback on students' progress, contributing to grade reports twice a year.
  • Participate actively in any curriculum development and integration projects, aligning physical education objectives with broader school initiatives.
  • Attend Parent Night (either in person or virtually) at the start of each school year to outline curricular objectives.
  • Attend Closing Ceremonies each year to celebrate student success and achievement in all areas.
  • Undertake any additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the school director.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working with students who learn differently or in inclusive educational settings is highly desirable.
  • Certification in Physical Education or Teaching (preferred). Pre-Service teachers are welcome to apply.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Commitment to promoting health, fitness, and wellness among students of all abilities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of adapted physical education principles and techniques.
